Zamparini- Crazy, Stupid, or Merely Impatient? (POLL)
Some people are just never happy. Take Jose Mourinho, for instance. He’s hired solely by the richest clubs in the world, has a ton of money to spend every transfer window, and still complains incessantly about the refs, about how Italy hates him, about how he’s handcuffed. You think a man with that many trophies would be above it all. But this post isn’t about Jose, much as it wants to be. It’s actually about Palermo and Maurizio Zamparini.
See, Zamparini isn’t very happy with Delio Rossi right now. In fact, he’s downright pessimistic about the short term future of the club:
At this moment, we’ve a 20 per cent chance of beating Udinese. They are an excellent squad with a great Coach, Francesco Guidolin, who has improved a great deal and constructed a solid defence. That is the real strength of his side and Lazio, who are running away with fourth place. I cannot say the same of my Palermo…”
He’s moaned often about Delio this campaign. Quite a bit actually. (How funny is that quote about Benitez in the second link now, by the way?)
But does Zamparini even know what he’s talking about anymore? Palermo have done admirably this far in the campaign, in seventh place. They are eight points off a Champions’ League spot but perhaps that doesn’t seem so bad since Juve are merely a point ahead of them, and Roma underneath. The fact is that Rossi has done what he can with the squad he’s given. Outside of Cassani and Balzaretti, it’s not like the Palermo backline is overflowing with talent, even if they have the best lookalike in Serie A. On the flipside, should a side with the likes of Pastore, Miccoli, and Ilicic be much higher on the table? Tough to say, but since there’s a poll here, you have to.
So is Zamparini right? Is Rossi the wrong man for the job? Are Palermo underachieving? Or is his trigger happy nature and refusal to back his coach the real issue?
