Some Actual Azzurri News. How About That?

As I’m sure everyone here knows, we have a couple more WC qualifiers coming up in October.

Our next game is against Bulgaria, who tied 2-2 with Vucinic’s Montenegro last game. Thier coach Plamen Markov has announced his squad that will face us:
Bulgaria (squad):
Goalkeepers: Ivankov (Bursaspor), Petkov (Levski Sofia)
Defenders: Milanov (Levski Sofia), Manolev (Litex Lovech), Iliev (Terek Grozny), Tunchev (Leicester City), Ivanov (CSKA Sofia), Vagner (Levski Sofia), Venkov (Litex Lovech)
Midfielders: S Petrov (Aston Villa), Genchev (Vaslui), Yankov (Hannover), Angelov (Energie Cottbus), Georgiev (Slavia Sofia), Dimitrov (Metalurg Donetsk)
Strikers: Berbatov (Manchester United), M Petrov (Manchester City), Popov (Litex Lovech), Lazarov (CSKA Sofia), Rangelov (Energie Cottbus)

That’s some decent quality. I’ll have a real preview up soon, but basically, we’ve been lucking our way through these so far. We have to push it up, and work on keeping the ball. It’s gonna be tougher without Pirlo, but with DDR, Monto, Aqui, and Camo ready, there’s really no excuse. A full 3 points in a convincing victory is what we need.

With Berba and Petrov leading thier attack, it’s a good thing we have Canna and GC back. Could you imagine how Barzagli would do against those guys?

Yeah, I’d like to think of other things, too.

well, Bulgaria r a quality opposition, if we play against them like we did against Cyprus or even Georgia, they will bury us..Lippi and the players had a lot of excuse first time around when they complained of a lack of match fitness/physical fitness owing to the late start of serie A, now they have no excuses..If we win this match, which we should, then i reckon we are half way through the qualifiers….I expect Gilardino to score the winner, he is having a great season, scoring in all the matches and he scored a great goal against Genoa

All’s I have to say is, GET MICCOLI ON THE SQUAD

what this squad lacks in creativity and pure goal scoring ability lies in that pint sized striker they call mighty mouse

I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing him there. Iaquinta too, mix things up.

Gila simply has to be called up. He’s one of the most consistent strikers right now (though I’d be his biggest fan if he could score away from the Stadio Franchi).

But Lippi’s gotta bite the bullet and call up Pannuchi. If we need a goal, he’s basically a guaranteed setpeice

I wish they would just bury the hatchet. Does anyone know the history of the beef between them? I think at least for these qualifiers, we should put in Panucci at RB. Better than Cassetti, no matter how much I love Marco…

But no worries, DDR will lead us to the World Cup!!!

it goes back to their days together at Inter in ‘99, I believe. Ever since that fiasco, they’ve not been the best of friends. ha.

Are the same people who called for Balotelli and Giovinco really calling for Panucci? Cmon!

Reserves are where we should gradually shift to younger players, and Panucci is a reserve. He may be Roma’s top goal-scorer (says more about Roma than it does about Panucci) but we do not need Panucci on the team.

we should put in Panucci at RB. Better than Cassetti, no matter how much I love Marco…

You’ll notice no one is calling for Cassetti to get another Azzurri call-up, he’s far from a starter.

But alessio, how much depth do we really have in defense right now?
The following people deserve a call up over Panuc:
GC
Canna
Legro
Zambro
Maggio
Grosso

thats 6 players out of 8. Maggio isn’t going to get called up. Santcroce is too immature still, and besides that, why not call up Panuc? WHo’se spot is he taking? Criscito’s?

Just watching Juventus play that minnows from belarus..Del Piero is offcolour and cant make an impact..I have always said that iaquinta is the type of player who can play wide out and stretch the opposition defence and he has just done that today and also scored two goals to spare chiellini´s blushes..it is understandable that Chiellini is a bit rusty since he has just come away from injury, infact he also gifted the equaliser in serie A match last time around.. Iaquinta is a must in the azzurri set up..he can come in as a powerful sub and stretch the opposition defence creating space for other players

julian,

i would add Dossena and Gamberini to that short list.

the biggest problem is a back up for Zambro.

i disagree with all of you who think Gila should start. he has looked horrible this year in the CL and wearing blue. plus his scoring with Fiore is only (as i say over and over with him and Mutu) because of their capable midfield feeding him.

if Lippi plays Toni or Gila, i can guarantee they do not score. Camo shold be left on the bench as well.

Di Nat on the left and Quaglia(crazy skills which will throw off Bulgaria)/Cassano(thirsty to score) on the right with Iaquinta to start in the middle.

Dossena slipped my mind and should definitely be on the list. I’m not convinced by Gamberini though

well, as iam posting this, iam really surprised at the way an ordinary French club is toying with Roma. That definately confirms my belief that Italian teams maybe barring Juventus will get humiliated this season in CL, dear GOD how we miss Milan!!!! Roma is just an overhyped and an ordinary team which gets unfair assistance and hype from the Italian press and public alike..De Rossi is a gem and he should quit Roma and join Milan( what a dream addition it would be!!!) if he has any intention to add CL, Scudettos and other awards in his resume..The likes of Perrotta, Aquilani,Cassetti are a joke..i honestly dont know how Perrotta is playing for the Azzurri!!Roma was thrashed and humiliated by United two years in a row and it will be a shame if Roma doesnt even make it past the group stages which is definately a possibility if they lose tonite.

Cassano should be called up. He should play between Iaquinta and Gila. Giovinco should be a reserve and come on as a sub in the second half. He is still young, but he does deserve a shot. Just so you all know, if you haven’t seen it already, Cassano has been brilliant so far this year.

But heck, with Lippi’s current decisions so far, here are the starting strikers: Di Natale – Toni – Del Piero

- I called it now watch him prove me right. Just goes to show you, the person that may have lost their legs the most since 2006 has been the Donadoni copying Lippi (and Im a Juventus/Lippi fan)
