Serie A Weekend in Review: Giornata 1
Starting today, I’ll have a new article up after every gameday that covers how Italian players are doing in Serie A. This is an Italy blog so we should be keeping a careful eye on these players, no? It’ll focus on numbers and cover goals, cards, assists, and form, but I do need some help to really make this a great post.
Goals:
Mesto (Genoa): 1
Donati (Bari): 1
Moscardello (Chievo): 1
Pellissier (Chievo): 1
Ricchuiti (Catania): 1
Inzaghi (Milan): 1
Morrone (Parma): 1
Cassano (Sampdoria): 1
Guberti (Sampdoria): 1
D’Agostino (Fiorentina): 1
Overall, 15 goals were scored in Serie A this weekend, 10 of which were scored by Italians. Inter and Bologna still have yet to play, however, and they’ll play tomorrow. So far it’s been a cagey opening round in Serie A though, which is to be expected for the first weekend. Pato leads the goalscoring charts with 2, while 13 players follow him with one goal apiece. Cassano and D’Agostino are probably being watched closely by Prandelli, and Guberti is a good emerging contender on the wing.
Cards:
Blasi (Napoli): 1 yellow, 1 red
Blasi is the only Italian who got a red card this weekend. Quite a few others are on yellows, including Zanetti (Fior), Sculli (Genoa), and Pasquale (Udinese).
Best result:
So far, there are a few that stick out. Cesena kept Roma to a 0-0 draw, in a game where Antonioli made some absolutely fantastic save. Great result for Cesena, not so much for Roma. Bari were able to nick a win over a Juve side that’s very much in a rebuilding process, and Milan demolished Lecce 4-0.

This will be a weekly post, as I said earlier, and is very much a work in progress. I’d love to have a lot of other information, such as assists, top saves, and most tackles, but I can’t find a website that logs that. Does anyone know of one? I’d also love any kind of feedback, including what else you’d like to see in this post.
But that is week one in review, minus Inter and Bologna. It’s great to see Serie A back in action once again.

Edit: Agiamba of the Juve Offside pointed me in the direction of a few more helpful sites. So here’s a few more statistics for you to chew on:
| Highest Gate | 47000 AC Milan v Lecce (edit: Juve-Bari had between 45k-50k as well) |
| Lowest Gate | 11000 Chievo Verona v Catania |
| Average Attendance | 26925 |
| Aggregate Attendance | 242328 |
There are plenty of stats about form and goals conceded and such, but that seems a little premature after one gameday.
