Prandelli in Talks to Take Over After the World Cup

From Channel 4:

Fiorentina have officially confirmed negotiations for Cesare Prandelli to take the Italy job. “We just ask the situation be clarified as soon as possible.”

The reports that Prandelli was the main target to replace Marcello Lippi after the World Cup had been circulating for some time, but took a huge step forward late last night.

“With reference to the reports that emerged in the newspapers today about contact between FIGC President Giancarlo Abete and Diego Della Valle,” read a Viola statement.

“ACF Fiorentina point out that only yesterday did Abete ask Andrea Della Valle for permission to contact Cesare Prandelli.

“Considering the request came from the Nazionale, Andrea Della Valle gave Abete the club’s permission and will accept the decisions of its Coach.

“ACF Fiorentina, in the interests of the squad and its fans, only ask that that situation be clarified as soon as possible, so we can plan our future.”

The matter is now in Prandelli’s hands, as he is officially in negotiations with the Federation for the Azzurri job.

Again, I hate these kind of things before tournaments because it takes away from the tournament itself. After the World Cup is when we should be talking about this, not now, but it is interesting news. Personally, I think Prandelli is a bit raw but he’s done very well in the Champions League and tends to get the best out of young players. He wouldn’t be the worst coach out there but I think he should at least manage a big club for a few years before hopping aboard here. Time will tell.

Nothing against prandelli, a wonderful tactician, but is he the right choice for such a high profile job??i dont think so..maybe sacchi or ancellotti would have been great!!!hopefully Capello wont win it with england and returns back soon to take the job with the azzurri, that man can win us the world cup 2014!!
having said it, the present squad selected by Lippi does not impress anyone but dont be surprised if he writes history!!especially if pazzini fires, we can go all the way…
But Lippi is a fool to leave out Cassano..look at some of his incredible assists to pazzini

  • Stasio

Lippi can create a team that no other manager in the world could construct or even think too..I now see his plan and am on board..Love Prandelli too thats a great choice

  • Bari Mike

    Pasta,

Sacchi??? Are you kidding me, this aint 1994! Ancelotti would be ideal, and in due time I think he will lead the Nazionale, but after completing the double at Chelsea, he isnt going anywhere for a while.

If Prandelli does take the post, that just means another domino has fallen in the coachin carousel that is Serie A. I wonder who goes to Firoentina now? As long as its not Ventura!

  • Apuzzo

Hey Julian, not sure if this has been discussed or brought up but are u gonna start a fantasy football league?

If so Mcdonalds has a great one coming up.

    http://en.mcdonalds.fantasy.fifa.com/

Players can be selected after the 4th of June and you can start a league. It should be really fun. I am already registered. You should make a post about it.

  • http://italy.worldcupblog.org/ Julian

Apuzzo, I started a World Cup bracket group on ESPN if you’d like to join. The link is here:
    http://games.espn.go.com/bpredictor/en/group?groupID=9604&entryID=307772

Password is “italywcb”. I’m not sure if that’s the same kind of game as the one you posted, though.

  • Apuzzo

No, it isnt the same kind of game but a prediction game should be fun as well. I prefer fantasy football (choosing players)but I will definitely join this one. Thanks.

You can do both if you want.

  • mikederob

im starting to get behind lippi i have to say. i think he’s chosen some good players and seeing him get rid of grosso proves to me that he isn’t entirely stuck in the past. we’re lucky to have a pretty easy group, cos it gives him enough time to play around a bit hopefully and by the time we have to play the big boys, he’ll know our perfect squad.
we’ve also got another friendly coming up. That’ll be interesting

  • mac

Why you would announce a possible change in manager before the biggest tournament is beyond me.

  • Vincent

Ancellotti would be my number 1 choice, but he isn’t budging right now from Chelsea after the double. Capello is not available.

I think under the circumstances Prandelli is a good choice. He will bring some fresh ideas and fresh players into La Nazionale. Could be an exciting time!

Any guess what our lineup for the first Euro qualifier will be?

  • M

Prandelli is a bit raw for this job now. Maybe in the future.

imo Ancelotti is more experienced in the European stage and would be a better fit. I don’t think he’s leaving Chelsea soon at the momen

  • kurdt

It’s just a way for the FIGC to push Lippi all the way in the tournament. Some kind like,”there’s no more chance for you after this WC, so you might want to give it all.” Prandelli is good manager and great tactician, not to say he also believes in the youngsters. He can start to prepare the future nazionale earlier this way.

  • Aspano

It’s a shame this’ll happen after the World Cup – His puffy vinyl jackets woulda been perfect for the South African weather

  • Tito

Aspano: that was good. I love the Prandelli wardrobe. Seriously, though, I hope he stays with the Viola. He’s all we have going for us. Also, he likes to use wingers, a commodity somewhat lacking in Italy. Who would our top four wingers be? Pepe? An out of position Iaquinta? Camoranesi? No one who inspires a whole lot of fear.

  • matty t

who the fuck cares about our next lineup for euro qualifier, its world cup time baby, this only comes once every 4 yearss

  • Maurizio

    Lol I agree Matty.

  • http://italy.worldcupblog.org/paul Paul

I see Prandelli coming in to try some new strategies, new players, and such. Experiment with Euro 2012.
2014: Ancellotti will be coach by then, and we will make a serious run for the WC with some of this young talent having matured (hopefully)

  • mo_dudes

I agree with you pastaChompingRoman about Lippi being a fool for leaving out Cassano, personally it was something I could not understand really, two players who are physically and mentally fit of whom they played a big role in qualifying their team to the most elite tournament the Champions League, why not choose them to continue their jobs in SA?! yet Lippi’s ego has not permitted to select Cassano!! it would of been wonderful to watch both players in SA this summer. I believe Prandelli will do a fair job looking at his experience, the one who will come after him is Ancelloti as he has declared it so many times that his passion is to coach the Azzurri but he is committed to the path he took with Chelsea and he is doing a great job. Prandelli is fine at selecting players and formation style, I sense that Abete of FIGC has talked to Ancelloti as first choice, but due to the task Ancelloti has with Chelsea, FIGC will appoint Prandelli to do what he does best and when time comes Ancelloti will take over “personal view point” any comments are mostly welcome. P.S. Forget about Capello really after England job he will not take any job, I admire the man for what he has done but I hate him because he has confessed that after England he has no other task to complete, he should of showed the desire and eagerness to coach the national team of Italia. I have a question for Capello; say if Italia fails to qualify for Euro 2012 would he be honored to coach Italia an epic of England failure to qualify for Euro 2008 and announced his honor to coach England? I hope England meets Italia at World Cup 2010 Final Game, Italia will prove to Capello that he is an english puppy dog.

  • i am not here to troll

an unbiased fair coach for the nazionale??? WHAT???????? You mean he wont make selections based on whether or not certain players play for Juve (Lippi obviously) or play for Milan (Donadoni)???????? Unheard of I tell you unheard of, jokes aside cannot WAIT for those euro 2012 qualifiers to come around, its about time that mario got a call up.

  • Remo

i would barely call prandelli unbiased, he had his problems with players as well.
Hopefully he doesnt leave out pazzini.

  • Chris

You’re a moron troll. If Lippi is so biased why were both Grosso and Candreava dropped? Why wasn’t Del Piero called up then? Buffon, Chiellini, and Marchisio should all be essential. What other experienced options are there to Cannavaro? Should Materazzi be called up then, would that be better? Camoranesi, and Iaquinta you can debate due to injury plagued seasons

Open your other eye, Lippi is not the one eyed Juventus loving moron you make him out to be.

  • asem

have squad #s been released already?
I am ordering a jersey online, but want to make sure De Rossi is #10 before ordering it.

  • Daddio

Asem De Rossi will be #6, and Pirlo #10.

Not official yet but 99% certain.

its about time that mario got a call up.

You’re as schizo as he is. Not what you said after Barca-Inter.

  • http://juventus.theoffside.com alessio

Oh boy, I better avoid this page for the next few weeks. Winning with yet another Stranieri XI.

  • i am not here to troll

hmmm I only have one word for you alessio, TERZA!!!!!!!!

Interesting news: from channel 4 about the FIGC new plans for Azzurri after the world cup.
“The deal would take Prandelli through the European Championships and the next World Cup in Brazil. It would represent a new era for the Nazionale, as many of the ageing stars in the current squad are facing their final international tournament. However, the newspaper suggests that the FIGC is planning a new infrastructure to aid Prandelli in scouting talent. Former Italy and Milan Coach Sacchi, who took the Azzurri to second place in the 1994 World Cup, would return as supervisor. Ex-Rossoneri defender Maldini is another potential new member of staff to join Gigi Riva as team manager.”
I would love to see the likes of cassano, balloteli and giovinco with Azzurri. lovely ha!
