If the World Cup Started Today, Which Strikers Would You Bring?

The world cup is a long ways away and a lot can happen between now and then. Someone could get hurt and miss the cup or suffer a terrible loss in form, or some guys who suck now could get markedly better before next summer. But if the world Cup started today, which guys would you call to lead the attack and why?

Personally, my front two would be Pazzini and Cassano. They’ve both been absolutely on fire this season. Pazzo scored a goal with a broken nose over the weekend, bringing his tally to 6 while Cassano has been in inspirational form. They know each other inside and out because they both play for Samp, so I’d throw them up top together and let them wreak delicious magical Sampdorian havok amongst unsuspecting defenses.

On the bench I’d definitely bring Iaquinta, Gila (sorry but he earned it the last 3 qualifiers), and Di Natale since he’s the leading goalscorer in Serie A so far. Rossi gets dropped because both him and Villareal have blown so far this year, and Toni can’t even play for Bayern.

So, as of today, I’d feel comfortable bringing those 5. Of course, in a year that might all change, but I feel like Cassano-Pazzini is as good a front two as any. What do you guys think?

I think the strikers who have their bags packed are as follows:
Iaquinta, Gila, Di Natale, Amauri – Those are likely to be in south africa,
the ones who are on the bubble are:
Rossi, Quags
and if form is solid these guys are shoe ins:
Totti, Del Piero
Who should go, but we’ll see them in 2012
Cassano, Pazzini, (Balotelli – based on Form and playing time)

I reckon January will be the big month for Antonio Cassano. If he moves to a big italian team who is competing in Europe he may have a decent shot going to south africa. I don’t think Samp is where he needs to be right now. The problem though is that Juventus and Inter are completely stacked, he will see limited playing time esp. if del piero gets well.

So for Cassano, Milan is the likely place he should go. In Fact if he goes there and takes over for the defacto ronaldinho that might just be enough to work wonders.

On the flip side, many of us are in favour of seeing Giovinco at the world cup. This guy is quick, uber talented, and can speed down the left side. Ideally, if the national team was up to me, he’d be playing left wing, behind cassano. The dynamic that would create would leave just about any defence on earth dumbfounded and flat footed. But again, I don’t seem to have the connections lippi has so I wont be coaching until at least 2012 ;) Anyway, the only way Giovinco is going to the world cup is if sadly he goes on loan from Juventus to Fiorentina or Milan. But then again, he won’t be able to play in Champions League, since he’s already started for the Bianco Neri. The problem with GIovinco is that without del piero there, he is seeing limited action. Once the Juventus oldy starlet returns it’s likely giovinco may be banished to the nether regions of the bench. He’d have to fight over Diego, Del Piero, Camronesi just to even get consideration – for my money, a confident, in form giovinco can run circles around these guys any day.

Balotelli. Love him or Hate him this guy is a monster in ever sense of the word. From his Monster Skills, to his Monster Size, this is exactly what the Azzurri have always been missing a true striker who can score, and dribble, set up plays, and take free kicks. For my money he is the uber Baggio in waiting. he’s only 18/19 and still has years ahead of him. In recent times he seems to be coming around more and more. His play against palermo was a single man show and a delight to watch. The fact that eto walked ahead of him to take a penalty that balotelli quite frankly instigated single handedly showed that the cameroon striker had little class. That they hugged in celebration showed that Balotelli, is starting to come around a bit. For me, he has everything Giovinco has, and more. A world cup being held for the first time in Africa, when arguably our best future prospect in years is originally from Africa, I think its a no brainer. How is he going to get there though? If he continues to play as much as he is playing at inter. If he continues to gain support in the locker room. He is still a kid, but if he shows leadership, and class on the field I think he might just make it. He’s got a lot against him sadly, and that might be due to the old guards mentality in italy. But if he can rise above the fray he’s got a lot of support and a great opportunity to book his ticket to south africa.

Alright that’s my take on the three men that should go to the world cup. Along with these three I would put Foggia and Pazzini. Although after his cheeky goal and watching him in recent weeks Palladino may be starting to come around as well.

So, when does lippi select this team for the next match?

balotelli is gona be world class but he has an attitude problem, he has loads of time to fix it though, he just has so much desire and passion but sumtimes that turns out to be negative, i dunt see him goin to the world cup unless he becomes one of serie a’s top scorers or inter make it really deep into the champs league. To be honest i dunt like him as a person cause he’s cocky and stupid-temper sense. That could affect lippi from callin him. Why can’t he just be humble like the other azzurri legends like maldini, pirlo, buffon, etc. but as i said before time is on his side, and he can only improve but sumtimes a lepeord cant change its spotss. so we’ll seeee….

Anyway i would personally take gilardino, iaquinta, pazzini, del piero/totti (for leadership/creativity/experience), and quags/amauri/inzaghi/palladino/whoever the hell tops the scoring chartsss lol

If I have a hand in selecting the five in-form strikers to go to World Cup 2010 in South Africa it will be; Fabrizio Miccoli, Pazzini, Cassano, Balotelli, Giovinco. Yes them five have inspired me this season so far and I believe they will perform good for the rest of 09/10. But why, why did I choose them five, I tell you why from my perspective at least; Miccoli is a natural striker and he is playing his best in years, he is short be fast and response quick plus aggressive in forward. Pazzini and Cassano are my favorite two up front for Azzurri they both click and understand each other well, Italia needs them both players in world cup. Ballotelli and Giovinco mamamya, just when these two are in the pitch expect the unexpected, them two are the future for Azzurri, Giovinco had a major role in the shake-up wake-up for Juventus lately and Balotelli is a natural born talent and brilliant striker. All five I have selected are hungry for success you can feel it when they play and this what Italia needs indeed. Of course, that is my selection and I am confident none of them would be called untill Italia has a coach who can realize the potential of some of Italy talented strikers not less productive ones.

Balotelli is not Italian? Hmmm. . . I have a cousin in Los Angeles who says that. He is a fucking moron and does not know his head from his ass. He, I suppose like many of the la nazionale fanbase believe that camorenesi or amauri or any ORIUndi deserve a spot; if those 2 aforementioned names deserve a place in gli azzurri before Mario then they are sorely missing the point; and they are dead wrong. . . . Basta

FORZA

I dotn see what we can lose completely changing our strikers … the current lot sucks awful .. Iaquinta should make the bench because he is a big guy and we might need a heavyweight upfront at some point. Cassano/Pazzini is easily the best striking combo at this moment in time .. lippi is just a disgraceful twat with an ego problem. Gilardino also as a sub .. rossi has no form .. quags shouldnt be near the italy team he has done nothing. Just take balotelli … let him and his attitude shine in africa.

We all know its wishfull thinking .. probablly none of the 3 most in form best strikers italy has will even be going .. so lets just stop dreaming n sulk … di natale/iaquinta starting partnership to knock us out in the 1st round.

Um, just for the record, AMAURI is NOT an Oriundi. Oriundi are italians, but removed a generation or two, or in the vaguest situation have italian blood in them. Amauri has 0% Italian blood, and therefore does not qualify to be an Oriundi, or italian for that matter.

Balotelli is Born in Italy, vis-a-vis he is italian.

Camronesi is as far as this exception can be taken and should be taken. We are not french, we are italians and thus should be proud to use our home grown goods. As imo it;s the best goods in the world.

onto other points, Cassano and Pazzini are starting to look burnt out a bit and need a break. And Amauri got a red card yesterday, does this make him a trouble maker? I hope so

P.S.

To all idiots, it is as simple as this:

Jus Sanguinis (Right of Blood.)If you have ANY Italian descent that can be proved (even older than one’s great grandparents if you have the correct documentation) then you qualify as an Italian citizen. That makes, for example, Mauro Zarate, who’s mother was born in Catanzaro, Calabria. That also includes Mauro Camoranesi who produced these documents ages ago. This includes, I’m sure, several of you lot, would you suggest that you did not have the right to have Italian citizenship?

Jus Soli (Right of Land). If you are of any descent whatsoever and are born on Italian soil then (like in your America) you automatically qualify for Italian citizenship once you have fulfilled certain criteria. SuperMario obtained his Italian citizenship in this way and is much more eligible than some of you lot who deride him yet have probably never made the effort to visit your ‘home country’ nor have ever bother to obtain citizenship. I am of course only referring to the scumbags amongst us here who like to abuse Superman.

Lastly there is naturalisation, a process that Amauri has not yet fulfilled (and which I desperately hope he doesn’t until after the World Cup) yet I would still suggest that he is more Italian than some here. Unless you have lived in Italy and know your country, culture and language well you cannot consider yourself an Italian. An Italian citizen yes, an Italian, no.

If you don’t believe me, those who are abusing Mario et al, please, go to Italy with no money in your pocket, no translator or dictionary, no nothing and then get back to me on how you fared. Then compare that to how Amauri fared when he arrived in Italy in that situation (which he did) and how Mario has fared being born to illegal immigrants who were deported.

Ciao belli

Bring on Spalletti: “La Nazionale is the dream of any trainer. I feel ready to do it. I speak about a ‘foreign’ national team but also the Italian one. It’s an opening that I would allow,” Spalletti revealed.
I wish to see him the head coach of Azzurri one day. Forza Italia

Cassano is angry you guys, he has threatened the fans of Sampdoria by walking away just like he did before to Rome and Real Madrid. I mean Sampdoria fans should not make Cassano an angry man, coz he will just say fuck this bull shit and walks a way, and Lippi will take his actions as an excuse not to call him to Azzurri for World Cup 2010. Calm down Cassano Calm down man. Forza Sampdoria

I think Totti and Del Piero should come back to the national team.

Totti, Del Piero, Cassano, Iaquinta, Toni (if he recovers).

Other potential candidates: Gilardino, Di Natale, Di Vaio

People who are calling for Balotelli to be on the team are wrong in my opinion. Even his coach at Inter is fed up with him. A player with that kind of attitude is not ready for the Azzurri. I personally couldn’t care less about the race issue or anything like that. I just think he is overrated and has a terrible attitude.

My list would include:

Iaquinta, Gilardino and Pazzini. The other two spots are tough. Rossi/Del Piero and Cassano/Di Natale. And if Totti comes out of retirement then he could easily take either of those two spots as well. Lippi might call 6 instead of 5 though which would make selections easier.

Lets play it safe and go with skill, leadership, and attitude- Lippi better wake up and bring in Totti,Toni,Canavaro,Pirlo,Gattuso,Miccoli,Nesta,Gilardino,Iaquinta,Cassano,Pazzini,Del Piero, Camronesi, Amauri and anyone else he wants- Del piero,Totti,Pirlo, Gattuso and Canavaro deserve to be on the National team- let them take the AZZURRI BACK TO GLORY ONE MORE TIME..THE YOUNGER PLAYERS WILL HAVE TIME…BUT NOT IN 2010. DON’T SCREW UP LIKE YOU DID IN SOUTH AFRICA A FEW MONTHS AGO- LIPPI SHOULD HAVE BEEN KICKED OUT FOR THAT SQUAD. GLORY TO ITALIA!!! AZZURRI ! BRING IT HOME AGAIN.Nited states
