Italy

A little Christmas get together..

First of all, you must imagine me saying this in the voice of Bing Crosby, it adds to the illusion.

Hello there, everyone.

Over the last few weeks, I have watched my good co blogger write pieces that seem to split everyone down the middle(don’t worry, it’s not one of those articles, he writes what he wants and you say what you want, case closed.)

Anywho, as it seems that many people are going down the whole “this blog is too satirical, this isn’t to my taste” feel, I would like to find out what is to your taste, find out what type of people  we have on this, and maybe, just maybe spark some discussion that doesn’t revolve around insults and arguments. It is Christmas, after all. You can go back to ripping each others faces off in the New Year.

So, I have designed a little quiz. Answer in the comments, and we can start talking about the things that brought us here, not the differences that make us leave. At least this once.
1. Favourite club teams, (If you follow any from any other country, stick them in) and why your favourite is who they are.

2. Top 5 favourite ever players, Italy or otherwise.

3. Top 5 favourite Italy players(if they are different)

4. Why the Azzurri? If Calcio, why that as well?

5.Where are you from?

6.What do you do for a living?

7. Do you watch much live games?

8.Who are the greatest club side ever, in your opinion?

9.Pele or Maradona?

10. Totti or Del Piero?

11. Platini or Baggio?

12. Balotelli: Discuss.

13. Juve: 27 or 29?

14. Like any other sports? If so, what who d’you follow..(off topic, I know)

15. Finally, miscellaneously – music taste – what are your top 5 artists/singers/bands/songwriters etc.

That’ll do for now. This should hopefully provoke some discussion. If you don’t want to answer any of these, put N/A next to the number or whatever. Now I know I wanted no arguments, and then asked about Calciopoli, but it’s an interesting opinion, it’d be nice to discuss it without trolling each other.

For the record my answers are:

1. AC Milan, first and foremost. Reason: Football Italia on C4 when I was young and Pippo in 2007. They are the team I support. Teams I sympathise/admire/follow in their respective countries:

England: Arsenal(love the football and policy) and Wolves(My hometown)

Spain: Real Madrid(Raul and Luis Figo when I was little were my favourite footballers. Euro 2000 + RM’s Champions League win when I was seven strengthened this)

Germany: Borussia Dortmund(They play in yellow, I like yellow. Little more. Hard to like Bayern, and German football simply isn’t my thing)

The rest are teams in the smaller leagues, and ones I would I support if I watched it more include; Benfica Ajax and Lyon.

2. Pirlo, Raul, Pippo, Maldini, Totti.

3. Pirlo, Pippo, Maldini, Totti, Gattuso.

4. 2006 WC, Fluid football and great characters combined with my passion for Italy’s game at this point really consolidated the love for Italy.

5. Wolverhampton, England. A place Gadsby called “the grottiest place in England” and Lonely Planet called the “5th worst city in the world”. Wonderful. It’s compatriots in the list of cities you “love to hate” include Detroit, LA, and San Salvador.

6. I’m a University student, so nothing. I do English Language and Journalism at Worcester Uni.

7. Unfortunately, no. I despise the EPL too much to watch a game and Italy is expensive. Hopefully that’ll change soon.

8.Milan 1988-1990. And I’d try and make a case for the Capello era too. Just my opinion, though.

9. Maradona. Pele was a great goal scorer, but I’d have loved to see him out of Brazil longer, but Maradona did amazing things in the best league in the world at the time with a mediocre side. Pele was always surrounded by greats and at club level, rarely tested.

10. That’s a toughie. I think ADP has more to his game, but Totti was more of a guy you’d want in big games, I think. I’ll go for Er Pupone, but only from personal bias.

11. Baggio, but only just. I can’t say no to a question involving that man, as magical as Platini was, Baggio was a better number 10, to me.

12. He is the Italian Cantona in Manchester again, and his talent is exceptional. If he just dials down the crazy, he will be one of the best, easily. I hope he returns to Italy.

13. 27. Sorry Juve fans. I don’t know all that much in detail, but they did shift the goalposts a lot, and they did win. By rights, it should be declared void. Just my opinion though.

14. I’m contemplating watching Basketball. I really like the Chicago Bulls and I plan on ignoring my lack of prior knowledge and swallowing the confusing American jargon and watching it. If it counts, I really like WWE as well. I occasionally watch cricket.

15. In order: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, Metallica, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes, Machine Head, Gun N Roses. I also like Classical Music and early(very important) indie.

Have fun, I hope we talk about something cool :)

Merry Christmas!
