We’re Coming Home Baby! #11
In a shocking twist of irony, Gli Azzurri are starting their meteoric climb up the FIFA rankings ladder. From 13th not even a month ago to 11th this month. Obviously the 1-1 draw against Germany at Dortmund played a significant factor in this decision. Heck, we have yet to win a match in Champions League thus far in 2011.
Here’s the top 11 list of FIFA’s preferred national teams:
| Ranking | Team | Pts Mar 11 |
+/- Ranking Feb 11 |
+/- Pts Feb 11 |
|
| 1 | 1880 | 0 | -7 | ||
| 2 | 1730 | 0 | 7 | ||
| 3 | 1486 | 0 | 1 | ||
| 4 | 1412 | 1 | 45 | ||
| 5 | 1411 | -1 | -35 | ||
| 6 | 1212 | 0 | 17 | ||
| 7 | 1172 | 0 | 20 | ||
| 8 | 1071 | 1 | -4 | ||
| 9 | 1060 | -1 | -30 | ||
| 10 | 1038 | 0 | 22 | ||
| 11 | 957 | 2 | -8 | ||
It’d be hard to argue why teams like Greece, Croatia, England are ahead of us in the FIFA standings. I mean, they’ve each displayed significant results and performances of a silverware winning squad over the last four years. (epic fail on my internet sarcasm) Regardless, FIFA’s lustful passion for Brazil seems to be diminishing, as they’ve now dropped below Argentina into 5th place overall. *Shocking*
Controversy regarding Danny DeRossi. Hmmm. We all know DeRossi isn’t my favourite and far be it for me to actually comment on this match as I was on appointments and was unable to watch Roma lose 6-2 (aggregate) to a Russian team – but from accounts DeRossi’s behaviour yesterday was dismal. There are now rumblings that the Roma man may be shovelled out of the Azzurri for our forthcoming matches due to a projected reprimand by UEFA. This will conflict with the very same code of ethics that launch Cassano out of the Azzurri from October to February.
What are your thoughts? Should DeRossi be booted? Based on form alone, I would say he shouldn’t have even gone to the WORLD CUP; but based on yesterday’s performance does Prandelli have merit not call him for the Slovenia and Ukraine matches at the end of the year?
