Weekend Thoughts
Gotta make this one quick cause I have Calc in 20 minutes.
Since there’s no more international games until Octoberish, and I don’t want to leave the blog empty, I’ll use it to talk about club soccer in general, and mostly Serie A. I’ll also do previews of all the upcoming matches, but since they’re a ways off, why not talk about Calcio in general?
And boy is there stuff to talk about. There was some great games this weekend. A couple of quick observations:

- Roma and Milan both have to step it up. Both are doing pretty bad, but especially Milan. Roma got thumped by Palermo but with so many starters injured, it’s a bit easier to see why. The Roma Injury Crisis ™ is now affecting both Vucinic and DDR. As for Milan, what the hell? What is it going to take? I honestly have no idea anymore. They say that they’ve found a solution, but the only solution I see isĀ to drop Ancelotti and hire someone else (Donadoni? Why not. Could he be any worse?)
- Inter showed that all the big clubs are struggling right now, as they needed 2 own goals to beat Catania. Quick impressions of their game: Quaresma was pretty good on his debut, Ibra gave away more balls than a male prostitute, and Maicon is a monster.
- Juve showed the same grit and resilience that’s come to define them. They can go pretty damn far in the CL and the Scudetto run, but they (like Inter) have to start getting more of thier shots into the back of the net. Props to Amauri for his first Serie A goal with Juve, but 2 guys really shone for me. Sissoko absolutely bossed the midfield, and GC showed why we struggled defensively in qualifiers while he was missing.
- Lazio, Atalanta, and Torino are the top 3 teams so far? Is it opposite week?
- I’m really pissed cause my fantasy team only gained 2 points this week. That’s what happens when you put DDR, Vucinic, and Cassano on the team and 2 of them don’t play while the other one doesn’t score. Thanks guys.
- Jose Mourinho is an arrogant ass but I love him. He makes the soccer world so much more interesting.
