Italy Fixture List for the Next Year

Yesterday, I had a table showing the upcoming Azzurri games. Mino over at the Roma Offside- he posts here under Cicero- pointed out to me that the calendar wasn’t exactly accurate. It didn’t have friendlies listed, and thus it was quite a few games short. To atone for this oversight, I decided to do a posted dedicated entirely to the Azzurri schedule for the next year. And hopefully this one is 100% accurate.

October 8th 2010: Euro 2012 Qualifer away to Northern Ireland in Belfast.

October 12th 2010: Euro 2012 Qualifer at home against Serbia in Genoa.

November 17th 2010: Friendly away to Romania (remember them from our Group of Death last Euros?). Exact location TBD.

February 9th 2011: Friendly away to Germany in Dortmund. Should be an absolute cracker.

March 25th 2011: Euro 2012 Qualifer away to Slovenia.

June 1st 2011: Friendly away to Argentina.

September 2nd 2011. Euro 2012 Qualifier away to Faroe Islands.

September 6th 2011: Euro 2012 Qualifer at home to Slovenia.

October 7th 2011: Euro 2012 Qualifier away to Serbia.

October 11th 2011: Euro 2012 Qualifier at home against North Ireland.

(So a few quick notes on these: none of the games past February’s friendly in Germany have locations/stadiums designated yet, which makes sense because they are quite far away. Also, other friendlies could also be penciled in later, so there may or may not be more games than this, especially later in 2011. )

The first thing that jumps out at me is that we’re going to be doing a ton of traveling over the next year. We only have 6 games between now and June, sadly, and 5 of those are away.

Secondly, this sucks. Only 6 games between now and June?!

Third, the FIGC (assuming they schedule these things) did a fantastic job scheduling friendlies. Argentina, Germany, and Romania are top sides and should be more than just boring, dull friendlies. We’ll be motivated to do well, especially on the 9th of February away in Dortmund. They’ll want some revenge for 2006.

    Looking forward to it.

nice, games against germany and argie, can't wait to field a team with cassano against them, plus buffon will be back too!

Cassano and Pazzini against Ozil and Podolski… man what a matchup that'll be.

Good to see friendlies against top teams! I think part of our disastrous WC10 was the lack of quality we encountered. The only decent team we played between Euro and WC was Brazil, who hammered us twice. FORZA PRANDELLI!

I know alot of people may not agree with this, but i support both Italy and Germany. I have 75% Italian blood, and some German as well and my girlfriend lives in Koln and i've really fallen in love with that city. So i hope it's a great game, but to be perfectly honest, if Italy doesnt significantly improve, it's going to be a mismatch in favor of Germany.

when is it that balotelli is gonna be fit!?

The euro2012 qualifier against Estonia at home on 3 June needs to be added to the list. It presumably means the friendly against Argentina will not take place on 1 June, it at all.

Do freindlies count for the FIFA ranking system?? cause italy is in 11 spot and those tough games could dro them down further…if so.

  • Gio

yes, friendlies count, but less than other competition games

I agree, Argentina match possibly will take place on 7 June 2011 which is a FIFA day.
