CL Draws for Italian Teams Revealed
For the preliminary rounds, that is. Now we know who Juventus and Fiorentina have to beat in order to get to the group stages.

Champions League preliminary round draws were revealed today, and overall, Italian clubs don’t have a bad start. Juve faces either Tampere United or Artmedia. I have no idea where these two clubs are from or who plays for them, but Wikipedia did help me out a bit here. Apparently, Tampere United are the winners of the Finnish championship last season while Artmedia are a club from Slovakia. Either way, it should be a pretty straightforward game for Juve. It’s one of the most famous and powerful clubs in the world against, well, basically minnows. Ranieri himself said he’s happy with the draw and believes Juve can make it to the group stages easily.
Fiorentina has a tougher draw, having to face Slavia Prague, the champions from the Czech Republic. But considering some of the other games (Schalke vs Atletico Madrid? Ouch. Both teams made it pretty far last year so either one going out now would be considered a failure) this isn’t the worst draw out of the lot. It is a toughie though so Prandelli and co. will need to hit the ground running. That means you, Gila.
The draw from group stages will be made on August 28th, at which point the victors from here as well as the top teams (clubs that finished top of their league, like Man U, Inter, Roma, etc.) will be…placed in groups. We all know the drill by now.
Anyone else putting money down on a Man U-Roma quarterfinal?

According to Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Champions_League_2008%E2%80%9309) on the 6th of August. Artmedia currently have a 3-1 advantage from the first leg

I would just like to make it known that I have been “banned” from posting comments on the ROma offside. I did not curse, insult, or yell at any individual. All I did was post my opinion on Totti. Which, was different then everyone else’s.
Any time someone poses an opinion different from a Roma fans point of view they:
1) Insult you. Not knowing much about calcio, and thinking all there is to Serie A football is Roma (which they are sadly mistaken), this is basically all they can do.
2) Call Totti top 5 players EVER. All I can do when this happens is pray for them, and their helpless souls.
3) Ban you from commenting. For posting an opposing viewpoint.
Just thought I should make that known.
P.S. YOu may see this on other articles around theoffside. I just think enough is enough. So, I will make it known.

Antonio, it’s OK mate. I can’t post on hardly any blogs here. I used to be able to post on the Milan one, (I’m a Milan fan) but I keep getting spammed. I also can’t post on the Roma one, the Juve one, the Viola one, or the Serie A one.
So ease up. I don’t know why it happens, but I e-mailed the blogger(s) and they’ll fix it eventually (I hope).

You are always welcome on the Inter blog.

JP, if it doesn’t work, you can try posting from a proxyserver. Changes your IP so it isn’t marked as spam. Try like BoxofProx.com

This is rather good news for Juve.
I’ve got money on ManU-Roma, I think it will be freaking epic. (I’ll be betting on Roma)

Antonio, I’m sorry to hear that
I will say though that I won’t ban anyone or edit/delete comments just for posting opinions. If it has racist stuff or things like that, I will, but anyone can feel free to write whatever they want here, as long as its respectful and not discriminatory.

Alessio, forgive me but I have NO idea what a proxyserver is! I’m terrible with computers and everything pertaining to them.

Drop me a message at agiamba [at] gmail (dot) com JP, I can help you through it.

Milan is not in the CL, so will you post any coverage of Italian sides in the UEFA cup? It would be greatly appriciated!
And Antonio, i know exactly what you mean. Damn roma fans… I just try to stay away from their stubborn-as-a-mule ramblings (see this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcoumXsRdYo )
Although I must say, while Totti is not top 5 ever, he is a great player.
I’m hoping for a ManU-Roma QF, and I’ll be rooting for ManU, since they destroy Roma almost every time ;]

mele419, I will post some coverage but I’m really only doing clubs now because there’s not much national team news. My main focus is the Azzurri but I’ll also cover big events in club happenings. Theoffside.com, this site’s sister site, is really where the club dedicated stuff is talked about. But I will try to cover it
