im american, (unfortunately) but i am half italian on both sides, most of which is from Scafati, which is outside of Pompeii. They have a team called scafatese in the second-from-bottom teir, or something, although i do not know if they have good chocolate there. i suppose im not really italian, but i still support the azzurri. (and USMNT, cant wait until June 15) You dont have to be borm in italy, or live in italy, to be a fan of the best national team in the world.

And do you mean Paolo Maldini by that "overpaid 40 year old..."?? That's ridiculous, he deserves to have kept playing this long, as well as as long as he would want if he would want to keep going. And considering his age, he's still actually very good, Milan's best defendr this season for sure, and while that's not saying much comparing him to Favalli, Senderos, etc, Maldini is still quality. He's a legend, and also deserves a farewell match by the way.

Sorry, it just seemed like you were being rude. My bad if i misunderstood. Yes i'm an ADP fan, but i wouldnt put him on if he didnt deserve it in my opinion. How is he a national team flop? I dont really remember the Euro too well, but he was great in the 06 WC, for example scoring against Germany and putting away his penalty in the final. He's tied with ROBERTO BAGGIO for Italy national team goals, 4th place, and not far from 1rst, and if he's given a chance he might be able to reach it. Sorry, but being tied with Baggio, someone who basically carried the Italy attack by himself for years, is not being a national team flop at all.

Also, we'll qualify easily for the World Cup, there's no way we'd get embarassed. Even Spain, the arguably best team in the world, had ALOT of trouble with us in the Euro, and only won on penalties, which is all luck and keeper reflexes, nothing more (even though i think Spain is better than us at the moment/at the Euros). So we are obviously still doing something right, and dont need as many changes as you're making it seem. How does Pirlo for example deserve a starting spot, when Camoranesi doesnt, even though Camo was clearly shown to be the better in their head-to-head encounter just a few weeks ago. Camo also provides a style of play that is harder to find, whereas Pirlo could be replaced by Marchisio or D'Agostino for example (though i still think Pirlo is a starter), and Gattuso is not needed as much anymore with De Rossi available. Basically, we need to look to the future for some bright talents, but also need to look to the past to see who we can rely on, and Camo is one of those who we can rely on, as well as ADP, and to a point Cannavaro too (though i think Santacroce should be starting alongside Chiellini ahead of Canna, and Cassano most likely before ADP). Toni is also somewhat reliable, and i think he should be called up as he's still good, though certainly not starting XI quality anymore.

Plus, like i said before, look at my last posts, and you'll see that we do have a good amount of young players, including half, or more, of the starting XI that i think should be fielded.

And do you honestly think MARCHIONNI should be starting in front of Camo, or at least be higher up in the pecking order? That's ridiculous. Foggia's better than Marchionni most likely, and Camoranesi is better than either of them. Foggia and Marchionni are great too and i wouldnt mind seeing them called up, but not starting, especially not in front of Camo. And i agree with you that Marchisio deserves at the very least to be called up, give it a few years and he'll possibly even be on the level Xavi has been on this season (INCREDIBLE, for those of you who dont know how well Xavi has done this year for Spain and especially Barcelona).

Armando, your going in circles, look at my last post to counter many of your remarks. However, It is good that we do see eye to eye on many things.

About Buffon, I never said he was too old to play for the national team. I agree with you Buffon has many years ahead of him. Furthermore, Grosso, Gattuso, and Pirlo are all welcome on 'MY' naitonal team. Im sorry, but I am the boss;)

I take it your a huge del piero fan, I was until I saw some very disappointing behaviour from him. I think his time has passed. Also, I never said he was a big match flop. He is a National Team Flop. He doesn't deserve another shot.

Also, Armando, I mean this in a very polite manner. But just because we have won before does not tell us we are doing things right this time around. Cause we are not. We are actually dangerously close to 1. not only repeating history, but 2. Creating one for the history books in being the first country to win a world cup, not qualify for the next world cup.

To finish off that second to last paragraph btw, im just meaning to say that we need to integrate youth into the team, but we cant completely mak up the team of youngsters, as that wouldnt work. Right now for example, other than maybe D'Agostino, there's no one that could take away Pirlo or Camo's spots in the midfield on the starting lineup in my opinion, and D'Agostino is a different type of midfielder than them anyways. Foggia's good too, and is a winger like Camo (though Foggia's a left winger and Camo's a right winger) but he's only been called up a few times, and the World Cup is a big place to start, and an easy place to buckle under the pressure, which we need to be careful of. We need to put together a team of youth and experience. De Rossi, Chiellini, Santacroce, Maggio, D'Agostino, Rossi, Pazzini and possibly even Marchisio and Cassano (if Lippi calls them) could all be starters as far as i'm concerned, and theyre all relatively young. Then we just have Grosso(31), Buffon(31), Gattuso(31), Camoranesi(31), Pirlo(29), and possibly ADP(34) and Cannavaro(35). And in Buffon's case, 31 isnt really all that old for a keeper. Many keepers keep going till their 40. So explain to me how having half the team (or more) below or around 25 makes us an old squad, cause it doesnt add up to me.

Marco, dont insult me first of all. And since when was it "your" national team? Since when did you run the show? I'm not trying to start a huge argument over this, but dont act like your the boss.

And Del Piero is a flop against big teams? Actually, no, not at all. Siena's home form is great, theyve only lost a few times this year, and we stomped them thanks to Marchisio and ADP mostly. He also single-handedly destroyed Real Madrid, and was a big part of both the beatings we gave Roma this season. First off, we played Chelsea at a bad time, during a rough patch. But while ADP may have been quiet alot, not seeing much of the ball, when he did see the ball the Chelsea players were ganging up on him to get the ball. I know this because i remember posting about how they couldnt get the ball off him without fouling him and/or ganging up on him. Giovinco is a great talent, but he cant fill ADP's shoes just yet, and that's if he's ever able to, because most players in the world would fail trying to fill ADP's shoes, between his awesome career and still, at almost 35, being world-class, those are some huge shoes to fill.

And btw, Del Piero takes all the free kicks because he's the best at them, one of the best in the world even, and when on form possibly THE best. If you dont believe me, ask Casillas, Doni, or Curci who've experienced his free kicks first-hand.

About Maldini, that was a disgrace, and it's only a handful of stupid Milan fans that acted like that, much less all italians. Maldini is a legend who deserves to be playing for Milan, and that was assinine by the "fans". If you believe that all italians are like that then you have a very warped view of italians.

And about France, Spain, etc, other than Brazil, Italy has the most World Cup wins for a reason. How many do the Netherlands, Romania, or Spain have? I'll tell you, none. End of story right there. So this year Spain might have a stronger side than us and might beat us. It's really not that big of a deal, considering they have arguably the strongest side in the world. France is actually the one thats having problems qualifying for the World Cup btw, and i dont think any of those other teams you mentioned will beat us on the big stage, maybe Spain, but the Netherlands or Romania? No way. And gimme a break about Cyprus and the others recently, were going through a bit of a rough patch, not a huge deal, we'll perform on the big stage. To be honest, i dont expect us to win the World Cup or the Confederations Cup for that matter, but there's no way we're gonna be embarassed.

Now, onto the rest of the team, yea we need to bring in some youth, for example i dont agree with starting Cannavaro, but i do believe he deserves a call up, and if his form improves for Juve then i think he could quite possibly fight the starting spot against the frontrunner who i believe is Santacroce (Chiellini has an automatic spot), and/or Legro. But you cant completely revamp a team like this, especially when although some of our players are aging, like Camo(31), ADP(34), etc, they are still world class. Camoranesi is without a doubt our best winger in my opinion and when on form our 2nd best midfielder overall only after De Rossi. Remember the Milan game, where he tore apart Pirlo and Zambro? I guess you forgot that. And ADP when on form terrorized defenses throughout the second half of the season, including pretty much single-handedly taking down Real Madrid, and he seems to finally be getting back to that form now somewhat. He definitely deserves a callup, and possibly a starting position if Lippi leaves out Cassano as usual. Who else do you have problems with?

In fact, i would like to see your ideal starting 11 (and callups too if you want). Go ahead, show it to me, i want to see it.
