Vieri Not Going Quietly

Christian Vieri put two goals past Rennes today, opening up the possibility that, well, perhaps he’s not finished yet. Still, his chances of making the trip to Germany remain slim at best. It will take several performances like today’s to persuade Lippi. And really, perhaps the larger question is this: even IF he does make the squad, what impact is he going to have? He’s not going to come off the bench late in games and tear holes in tired defenses. On the other hand, he’s as strong as ever, a menace in the box, and one well-timed header could determine a game in the later rounds.
