Transfer Madness- Something We Don’t Have to Worry About
I’ve been avoiding most of the circus- you know, the clowns, elephants, and lions- for a few reasons. One, it has shit all to do with the Azzurri. None of these guys are Italian and except for probably making ti tougher fro Italian clubs to win the CL, this hardly affects Italy at all. But at the same time, I’m personally torn. Part of this is pretty cool- even as a Roma fan, I can’t wait to see how Kaka, Ronaldo, and Benzema play together. On the other hand, the amount that Perez et al spent on those guys, especially given the current economy is laughable at best and completely irresponsible at worst.
Now, part of me finds this all really exciting. I mean, look at this from a Real fan’s point of view. Battered by Barca last year, humiliated by their rivals, disappointed in the Cl again. Now they have a dream team of sorts whose potential is sky high. That’s something we don’t really get with the national teams.
On the other hand, there’s something about national teams that’s just more pure than on club football. Let’s not forget that despite all the money at the club level, arguably the biggest prize in footy is on the international stage- the World Cup. You can spend $250 million dollars in one summer to win the Champions League the following year, but no national team can buy players to win the World Cup. There’s just something about that which makes it seem so much more worth it, at least in my eyes; there’s a certain amount of parity in national teams that you just don’t find in the club level. National team play pits the best of the country against other countries, with money kept to a backseat.
And that’s just where it should be.

Real winning next year’s CL? As if…

The World Cup= PRICELESS!
This is the true number one prize in football.
Now, if Lippi will get his head out of his @ss, maybe we can win it again. Could be awhile, because the 2014 WC is in Brazil.

And happy 3 year anniversary everyone!
I want to let Julian’s post get some comments and reads, so my anniversary post will be up tomorrow.

Looks like D’Ago gets a chance w/R. Madrid….He could do well Pellegrini formation/s

Amen, Julian. excellent point … no way to buy a WC (although Korea came close but wound up buying one for Brazil), but it is so true.

Thiago Motta wants to play for Italy….

why does everyone who is NOT italian want to play for italy but we can’t get Nesta//Totti out of retirement??? Not that they are at their prime anymore, but still.

Looks like RM are no longer interested in D’Ago….too expensive

now that the u21 is over, i am hopeful (and somewhat confident) that we will see Lippi bringing in some new, younger players.

I read this article from channel4.com and i think it is interesting:
Italy Under-21 boss Pierluigi Casiraghi has criticised Serie A clubs for not allowing youngsters to play and advised them to move abroad.
According to the former Chelsea player Italian prospects should follow the example of Giuseppe Rossi who grew at Manchester United and then joined Villarreal after leaving the Parma youth system.
“In Serie A results count more than anything,” claimed Casiraghi.
“If you don’t win matches you can’t play youngsters. So I think it’s better for them to move abroad because an experience like the one Giuseppe Rossi has had can be positive.
For many youngsters it has been time to decide whether to play regularly in Serie B or be a reserve in Serie A.
“It depends on their quality. For Mario Balotelli it is easier because he knows he can play at Inter, but for the others the Cadetti can be a good choice because it can be very competitive environment.”

I totally agree with Casiraghi. Azzurri will benefit from the players who go abroad. Italian Serie A coaches proved that they are not interested to play young footballers. i want to see young italy young talented fresh italian players hungry to win world cup and seeking glory unlike the old players who are currently representing italy and it is a shame they are.

i reckon theres gonna be an upset at the world cup i reckon
that some one you dont think will win will win
i wouldnt put it past russia doin a number
we all have seen what hiddink did with south korea
