These Are Good Problems To Have

March 6th, 2006 | By: Jay | No Comments »

It didn’t take long for the Italian media to jump on Marcello Lippi about his squad selection (why not Lucarelli? why not Cassano?) All very good questions… if your squad is getting drubbed. But that’s not the case, far from it. I guess they need *something* new to write about. Let’s not be fooled by Pippo Inzaghi scoring unimportant goals at home against teams like Empoli. He’s going to have to do more than that to change my mind.

Lucarelli, on the other hand, you could argue he has earned it in spades…29 goals in ‘04 Serie B, 24 goals to lead Serie A last year and a total team player, which seems to count for a lot in Lippi’s mind. (He’s got Livorno’s badge tattooed on his arm, no less.) I’m not sure if its a bad vibes from the two appearances over last summer, or if its a style issue or what, but Lippi has been reluctant to call him up as of late.
