The Weekend That Was…

Some notes from the matches I saw this weekend…

AC Siena / Juventus: Sometimes you want to avoid teams near the relegation zone at this time of year because they’re fighting for their lives…and other times you realize they’re just plain BAD. Such was the case with Siena today. Beautiful stadium (Artemio Franchi), horrible play. Juventus buried their chances early and then coasted home. It’s almost impossible for Milan to catch them now. Del Piero did not look happy when Capello subbed him out for Zlatan, and Delpi had played well up to that point.

AC Milan / Livorno: I think the debate over the last striker spots got partially settled today. Inzaghi was all class on both goals. All is not so well as pertains to the Azzurri, however. Gilardino has been flat since the Christmas break and shows no signs of getting better. He had one goal in April, and one in March, I believe. On the other side of the pitch, Lucarelli did not impress.

Chievo / AS Roma: OK…those of you who thought there would be eight goals in this match, please raise your hand! This was a beauty. De Rossi continues to play well, and it sure would be nice if Taddei could find it in his heart to get an Italian passport.

Does anyone understand Capello’s logic with Del Piero? Either Alex or Capello is gone over the summer.

Inzaghi was at his paoching best, although he did miss a sitter.

Very true about Gilardino, but for once there are options. Plus, Toni is a one-man wrecking crew.

Mauro Esposito scored a fine goal against Parma and has looked dangerous for much of the year even though he hasn’t scored many goals. His pace would give opponents fits as a late game substitute.

Gilardino is consistent in the Azzurri and thus nobody cares how he does in AC Milan, specialy when the formations and attacking style do not suit him as well as the quality of the Azzurri.
