more expression of amauri's love for the azzurro shirt:

Amauri: I may snub Italy and Brazil Friday 2 January, 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus striker Amauri is fed up with speculation over his international future and claims he could snub both Italy and Brazil!

The former Palermo man has been on superb form with Juve this term, firing 11 Serie A goals.

There have been widespread calls for Marcello Lippi to choose Amauri for his squad to face Brazil in a friendly in February, but the prolific marksman could also be called by his native country to play against the Azzurri.

“I could say no to both teams,” Amauri claimed in La Repubblica.

“I came to Juventus as a relatively unknown player and so I don't really need international football.

'I would like to make things clear because of all the things that many people are saying about me.

“All this talk about my international future annoys me because it's not as if I'm in an auction between Lippi and Carlos Dunga.

“I don't really want to talk about it until I get an official call-up. At that point I will respond and it could be a negative reply.”

____________________________________________

also, i'm sure some of you saw in a previous article where inzaghi had some choice words for amauri regarding his treatment of the azzurri as a consolation. he was bang on in his opinion of amauri using italy as leverage/scare tactic against dunga and the brazilian federation (that was brilliantly followed up with the latest threat, as quoted in the last line of the above article). probably the first time in ages that fillipo has been 'onside'.

__________________________________________________________

dont these heart-felt words sound like those of a dedicated azzurro, anxious to play for the love of the country and shirt?

it's insane that some of you guys are willing to embrace a guy that clearly treats the potential azzurri option as second-rate consolation....not to mention that he is not one ounce italian and could potentially shut the door on a very qualified, legitimate italian who would kill for that opportunity.

This is how our squad should be:

Buffon
Zambrotta Chiellini Legrottaglie/Cannavaro Grosso
Camoranesi Pirlo/Gattuso De Rossi
Del Piero/Totti
Amauri Toni

A "/" means have them alternate. And have Di Natale, Miccoli, Amelia, etc ready on the bench, and we're all set. Also, Di Natale starting instead of Toni might be a good idea too, but i was thinking more a twin towers approach with Amauri and Toni up front and Del Piero/Totti, Camoranesi, etc providing the creativity and support.

All these news about Amauri will be put to rest on the 1st of January when he will be officialy handed over the Italian passport...Dunga was an iduiot when he mentioned that he had more good strikers at his disposal but he is doing an U turn now after amauri´s show against RealMadrid and since then in serie a..I think it is too late for Dunga and he will live to regret his words..if u guys did not know, Amauri has already posed with the national team jersey in Tuttosport and i dont think it was just for marketing purposes, it was not a nike or a puma or an adidas commercial, it was a commercial with the national jersey..That should be a proof for all that Amauri is all set to be called by lippi and i wont be surprised if he were to score against Brazil in his first match..believe me, the guy is too good and iam just salivating at the prospect of a 4-3-1-2 with Amauri and Toni playing in front with either cassanoor Del piero or Totti or Giovinco or Quagliarella behind the two strikers...with a midfield of Pirlo, Gattusso and De Rossi and the defence of Chiellini, Canna, Grosso/De Ceglie and zambrotta, this will be devastating...

the only thing Amauri deserves, having played 5 years in Italy, is a working visa. no one deserves Italian citizenship for that.

sure he is a good player but we don't need him and he doesn't really belong. Balotelli has lived in and played in Italy as well as having been raised by Italians. he has an Italian cultural identity and obviously an affinity for Italy since he has always thought about playing for Italy ... not Ghana.

yes Amauri is good, but so what. we have more than enough good strikers ... Lippi just has to call them up (no Gila, no Toni).

I would rather Totti back than Amauri.

lamagica, I wasn't stressing your use of the word "ringers", but your use of the word "backs". You're somehow suggesting these foreigners would alone carry the weight of bringing glory to the Azzurri, something for which they'd definitely need to be in greater number than two.

And yes, I support Juve, not that it has anything to do with the present debate. You're free to think otherwise but if Amauri wasn't playing for us, yet still scoring all these sh**loads of goals, I'd still want him in La Nazionale. He is just that good.
