Amauri: I may snub Italy and Brazil Friday 2 January, 2009

Juventus striker Amauri is fed up with speculation over his international future and claims he could snub both Italy and Brazil!

The former Palermo man has been on superb form with Juve this term, firing 11 Serie A goals.

There have been widespread calls for Marcello Lippi to choose Amauri for his squad to face Brazil in a friendly in February, but the prolific marksman could also be called by his native country to play against the Azzurri.

“I could say no to both teams,” Amauri claimed in La Repubblica.

“I came to Juventus as a relatively unknown player and so I don’t really need international football.

‘I would like to make things clear because of all the things that many people are saying about me.

“All this talk about my international future annoys me because it’s not as if I’m in an auction between Lippi and Carlos Dunga.

“I don’t really want to talk about it until I get an official call-up. At that point I will respond and it could be a negative reply.”

also, i’m sure some of you saw in a previous article where inzaghi had some choice words for amauri regarding his treatment of the azzurri as a consolation. he was bang on in his opinion of amauri using italy as leverage/scare tactic against dunga and the brazilian federation (that was brilliantly followed up with the latest threat, as quoted in the last line of the above article). probably the first time in ages that fillipo has been ‘onside’.

L’arttaccante brasiliano in odore di convocazione da parte di Marcello Lippi rivela al portare Terra Espotes i suoi sognui. In prims quello di giocare con la maglia della nazionale brasliiana: “”Sono brasiliano e se avessi la possibilità abbraccerei di tutto cuore la Seleção. Il mondiale del 2010? E’ il mio sogno”.

Alla domanda se per lui sia già pronta una maglia con la nazionale italiana, l’italobrasiliano non ha dubbi: “Come ho già detto tutte queste voci – continua Amauri – sono segno che sono con molto considerato in Italia, a causa del fatto che lavoro sempre molto seriamente. Ma io sono brasiliano, e l’unica nazionale che mi potrà convocare è la nazionale brasiliana”.

In ogni caso llo juventino non ha mai parlato con Dunga, l’attuale tecnico verdeoro: “Non ho mai parlato con lui – continua Amauri – e non è vero che mi abbia mai chiamato”:

Il prossimo match internazionale del Brasile sarà proprio contro l’Italia, e Amauri potrebbe essere convocato da entrambe le nazionali: “Vediamo che succederà – termina lo juventino – Amauri – Ho pensato a questa possibilità, ma allo stesso tempo ho lasciato la cosa per il futuro. Sono una persona che sa aspettare gli eventi, ma posso ripetere che io sono brasialino. Non c’è da aspettare per questo giusto? Al momento non c’è possibilità che la nazionale italiana mi convochi”.

La madre di Amauri, intatnto, fa il tifo perché lui vesta la maglia azzurra: “ Ha detto questo – risponde stupito Amauri? La chiamerò subito dopo l’intervista per chiederle perché. In ogni caso lei sa che la decisione dipende da me”

Queste le parole della madre di Amauri Janete Oliveira: “Il sogno di mio figlio è quello di giocare per il Brasile, ma in verità dovrebbe abbracciare l’Italia, il Paese che gli ha dato tutto.

it’s insane that some of you guys are willing to embrace a guy that clearly treats the potential azzurri option as second-rate consolation….not to mention that he is not one ounce italian and could potentially shut the door on a very qualified, legitimate italian who would kill for that opportunity.

A “/” means have them alternate. And have Di Natale, Miccoli, Amelia, etc ready on the bench, and we’re all set. Also, Di Natale starting instead of Toni might be a good idea too, but i was thinking more a twin towers approach with Amauri and Toni up front and Del Piero/Totti, Camoranesi, etc providing the creativity and support.

sure he is a good player but we don’t need him and he doesn’t really belong. Balotelli has lived in and played in Italy as well as having been raised by Italians. he has an Italian cultural identity and obviously an affinity for Italy since he has always thought about playing for Italy … not Ghana.

yes Amauri is good, but so what. we have more than enough good strikers … Lippi just has to call them up (no Gila, no Toni).

I would rather Totti back than Amauri.

And yes, I support Juve, not that it has anything to do with the present debate. You’re free to think otherwise but if Amauri wasn’t playing for us, yet still scoring all these sh**loads of goals, I’d still want him in La Nazionale. He is just that good.
