Squad For Georgia and Bulgaria Qualifiers

August 30th, 2009 | By: Julian | 91 Comments »

Linky:

Goalkeepers: Buffon, De Sanctis, Marchetti.
Defenders: Cannavaro, Chiellini, Criscito, Grosso, Legrottaglie, Santon, Zambrotta.
Midfielders: Camoranesi, D’Agostino, De Rossi, Marchionni, Marchisio, Angelo Palombo, Pepe, Pirlo.
Forwards: Di Natale, Gilardino, Iaquinta, Quagliarella, Rossi.

No Toni, Cassano, Monto, Gattuso & Bocchetti (the latter 2 are out injured). In: Marchionni.

You guys know my view on the squad already- I think without Cassano or Giovinco, we’re going to need a ton of luck to get through the next world cup. For Georgia and Bulgaria these guys might be enough, but we really should be playing with the squad that’s going to the WC in order to get chemistry together.

And for the love of footy, please don’t let this be the squad that we take to South Africa.

I would support the inclusion of a Brazlian or Argentinian-made pylon with an Italian passport.

It’s not just his performance against Genoa, look at him in the Europa league and perhaps crucially, the better half of the end of last season. He had a cracker of a start, but ever since he’s failed to replicate that form.

Melina, if you want to see different nationalities playing for the same team, watch club football. Serie A is a good league to follow.

National teams are just that, Home Grown Nationals. I’ll be damned if my NATIONAL TEAM is run in the same fashion as the french national team. This is the Azzurri, and only Italians should play for this team.

That being said how do you define an Italian? Is an American who is born to two italian born parents Italian? Yes. Is a Brazilian who plays in Italy and wants to play for any national team that can boost his career an Italian? Fuck No. – Not to mention, listen if the guy was great it would be tough for me to avoid this guy, but he is an average player with a big ego. If we pick him and we avoid our natural sons Pazzini, Cassano, Balotelli, etc…. well then, I think it would be a complete tragedy for calcio and Italy as a whole – I would sincerely hope we do not qualify for the world cup if that is the case.

@marco
you cannot compare italy with france. the italian team all the players are all ethnic italian, even the foreign born like camo, santacroce, forestieri, rossi… and players like t. motta, osvaldo, possebon… who wants to play for italy are ethnic italians. but most of the french born players like benzema and diarra are not ethnic french, even the foreign born french players like evra have no french ancestry.

I find it funny how ppl are saying it is “their” national team, meanwhile I bet very few of you hold an Italian citizenship or even speak Italian as well as Amauri does.

Also, calling the guy average is ridiculous. He is one of the 2 best aerial forwards in the world today and combines well in short passing 1-2 situations.

I’m glad amauri won’t be playing for us. he’s not italian, full stop. some of you guys seem to have such little faith in Italian talent, you’re beginning to sound like Lippi!!
We have Pazzini. he’s ready.

Hello and How are you guys doing, ok now I have two questions, this is part of a survey I am conducting, 1. Do you think Italy will qualify to World Cup 2010? 2. How many of you think that Italy will advance to round 16 at World Cup 2010? Your reply highly appreciated.
I have read the latest comments posted and I honestly think that you guys have a decent knowledge of football in addition to your motivation for change, squad change that is. It is beautiful to see a new look for Italy, but that will not happen under Lippi’s era, my prediction is that if we qualify to World Cup 2010 we will not do so good there for a one simple reason, ever since Lippi returned the progress is shaky and process is vague. I have to say Italy have a good coach but not good enough to meet today’s football ideology. In the other hand, I predict Germany will rule Europe and the World for the next 5 to 10 years, they have a very strong youth system plus the coaches are realizing the potential of the youth in Bundesliga by playing them regularly. Italy is lacking that and you can realize that after two Serie A league games, the shining stars are not Italians. I predict it will take Italy 5 to 10 years to win a major tournament again and that is a shame. Ciao Italia

i believe we have the players to win this world cup and the next, but we don’t have the prop-er manager who can see this right now. you’re right, if our youngsters were treated with more respect in serie a, we’d be a force to be reckoned with. It’s an absolute crime to have Giovinco sitting on the bench. All we’re doing is helping strengthen Brazil and Argentina’s national teams!!

Incisive and true as always. I bet no one on this page has lived in Italy as long as him either.

Doesn’t matter the guy isn’t italian. And as for a top two aerial forward… if he was top two dunga would have selected him by now. Get over the high horse, Amauri is very over rated. I consider Luca Toni a vastly greater threat aerial than Amauri.

I didn’t mean the Azzurri are like france, I meant that picking Amauri would make the Azzurri like france. This is a National team not a club team. There are far better current and prospective talents in Italy that are italian than a gypse like Amauri. PERIOD.

XYZ, for you I will say that based on current form, Italy will qualify for the world cup only because we are in the world’s easiest group for qualification. But come the world cup, we will not score a single goal and be eliminated with three loses. Who was it that brought up the fact we haven’t scored since a 10 man USA team nearly beat us? It’s absolutely true, yet we have the exact same – Toni strikers for the world cup qualifier??? Lippi must be fired, and the lot of you need your heads examined with regards to this Amauri thing….

it’s not about where you live or how you speak, it’s about how you’re brought up, your family, your name and your heritage. that’s what makes a difference. When Amauri was a kid do you think he was crying and cheering on the azzurri with his father? Do you think he gave a shit? of course not. That’s the difference. I could move to america now and live there for 40 years but i’d never, ever be an american.

sorry kqql. you’re right…i made a mistake…442 with rossi a supposrt striker for iaquinta:

from football italia:

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Lippi is set to adopt a 4-4-2 for Saturday’s trip to Tbilisi.

Giuseppe Rossi should act as support striker to either Alberto Gilardino or Vincenzo Iaquinta, while Marco Marchionni could be thrown straight in on the left flank after a three-year international hiatus.

“Marchionni is similar to [Mauro] Camoranesi, I like the way he cuts into the middle and creates the advantage,” added the Italy Coach.

Grosso is the favourite to start at left-back ahead of Genoa’s Domenico Criscito.

Doesn’t Marchionni usually play on the right?

As for the oriundi debate, I’m Canadian——we take whoever can get a passport. Unfortunately, in soccer, most of our best players try to get passports for OTHER countries.
