Some Azzurri News

September 25th, 2009 | By: Paul | 54 Comments »

- The Azzurrini (U-20) were held to a 0-0 draw vs. Paraguay at the U-20 World Cup in Egypt. Next-Buffon Vincenzo Fiorillo held off a few good chances from Paraguay. The Azzurini still face Trinidad & Tobago and Egypt to round out group play.

- Inter face Sampdoria this weekend in what should be a great match. 1st place vs. 3rd, Antonio Cassano vs. the defending champions, it’s a must watch game. Will a Samp win against Inter led by some great play by Cassano make any change in Lippi’s fucked up brain….probably not. Those cigars he smokes might just be really fat blunts laced with coke, cause there’s no reason Antonio shouldn’t be called up, he has been amazing this season.

- Speaking of Antonio’s, Toto DiNatale is still at the top of the scoring charts, a bullshit reason pretty much guaranteeing that Lippi will call him up.

- Moving to Parma has instilled a bit too much confidence in Christan Zaccardo. The man known for being the only guy to score on Buffon in play in WC ‘06 was quoted saying:
“I am hoping to reconquer the national team. I don’t want to make any claims because the pitch will tell if I deserve it,”
Reconquer? Meaning you WERE trying to defeat Italy against the US in ‘06!
I kid I kid, but really Christian, lets take this a few steps at a time.

- And why not end the post with more Cassano. Check out the latest goal.com article:
http://www.goal.com/en/news/10/italy/2009/09/25/1521804/sampdoria-star-antonio-cassano-im-a-new-man
How many insane stories does he have to come up with to show Lippi he isn’t insane? The play on words there was intentional; shut up Antonio. The lesser said, the better.

and look what happened when Iaquinta was rested..bologna toyed with Juventus and if not for Buffon and Chiellini, it would have been a easy win for Bologna..Also, Amauri flopped again…Juve concede in the stoppages..disgusting

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Anyone, BUT Gilardino. He is utter garbage and can never do anything positive on the field for love nor money. Him and Luca Toni should go play for the Italian NT of Beach Footy or something. Say what you want about Iaquinta but he’s an aerial threat and he’s bagging the goals in right now. Definitely call Pazzini and Cassano though.

Talking points from the weekend.

1. Cassano to the national team

2. The Fall of Milan – I would say NO Italian playing for Milan should be on the national team. Gattuso is horrendous, Ambrosini was awful, Pirlo is slow, Zambrotta should be tied up somewhere, and Nesta showed exactly why his injury in 2006 was a Blessing in disguise. I really liked the part when Gattuso runs into and trips a Bari player, while the guy is on the ground, gattuso walks over looks down and kicks the guy in the side. This is the sort of skilless monster Lippi wants on the national team?

3. Juventus: Late goal, looked very average, buffon was good. DP is great – but should not be on the national team – Trezeguet is the best striker we have. And again Amauri shows why he is useless in my eyes. Btw CHiellini made a nice save with his head today.

4. Udinese and Toto Christmas, is running up his tally 8 goals and counting. Lippi selects the hottest boots in Italy and left him on the bench. Another reason why Lippi is an idiot.

5. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. There are too many mediocre foreigners in Italy. There is some great italian talent right now in the league, yet places on big teams are being taken up by the mediocrity other countries are producing. Huntelaar is my example for this week. I mean has this guy even taken a shot in serie a? Inzaghi is light years better than him and he is 38. Kick this dutchie out of the team and bring in Paloschi.

6. Gilardino is a waste of space.

i personally think that Miccoli and Cassano should be the starting strikers against Ireland…all we need is a tie to qualify (Knock on Wood) so i would give Miccoli another shot with Il Nazionale (Does anybody remember Portugal?(#1 in the vid))…Gilardino is just no, Iaquinta isnt surprising anybody these days, Quags needs to be the center of attention which cant be happening on the national team, Di Natale’s getting lucky, Rossi’s still a bambino, Pazzini’s my #2 man, and Cassano’s, well Cassano’s just Cassano…Tell Me (Truthfully) if you honestly think Miccoli dosent deserve a call up…

marco, ur right mighty milan have fallen but seriously no milanista on the azzurri? pirlo is just gettin his form back, gattuso is comin off of injury, abate is a hard runner and looks like a valid wide option, and zambrotta even though he is aging is still a top quality fullback that adds experience to the azzurri fold. I still expect at least 3 of these players to be called up by 2010 WC and they will reach their peak right when necessary just like in ‘06

p.s. im a milan fan as u can soo tell lol

ya i agree with matty, pirlo and gattuso r still necessary for the NT. they r the silk n steel that italy need in the centre of the park along with a creative and hardworkin camoranesi, plus a stalwart de rossi runnin the show

Matty and Karl – Pirlo maybe. I’d have him come off the bench. I don’t think he is quick enough to play the fast paced international game. He is playing better and has been thrown into a very poor milan side, I do agree, but it will depend on if he can play at a higher tempo. Ideally I would have the midfield in a diamond and him on the left side.

Gattuso, NO. Gattuso is finished. Even a milanista of the highest quality must realize this. He was chasing shadows yesterday. Injury or no injury he is looking rediculous. I’ve also noticed a real attitude and temper problem on this pitch. That is a very dangerous cocktail against a better team. Imagine if he gets sent off during a round of 16 against Ghana. What then? DeRossi, Marchisio are both much more talented, younger, players who should take his place.

Abete needs to become a regular (he should have no problem on this version of milan) and refine his craft more for the national team. before any selection.

Zabrotta is a definite NO! This guy should have been banished to the island of cyprus long long ago. He is awful and one of the big reasons why Milans defense looks like complete shambles. I don’t know if you saw the game yesterday, but let me remind you, Bari is an okay team, they were in serie b last year and have recently been bought out by an american. I don’t consider them on the same page as a napoli, let alone where a milan should be. I think they’ll end up staying in serie a by no more than 10 points. But hey maybe im wrong. Anyway, Milan looked like a serie C team against them. Their defense, looked awful, their midfield even worse. Their offense I don’t think left the bench either. The heroics of their goaltender yesterday is something of legend. When a team with 3-4 possible national team starters is this bad, I think that no, they should not be selected. There are much better talents available to us. I’d rather pick the whole of chievo to start for us, then that over rated pile of rubble.

hey marco ya u have solid points bout gattuso and zambro, but too be fair just cause bari was in serie b last year doesnt mean anythin really, ya they dunt have star players and there players wages of the whole team combines is half of ronaldinho’s but that doesnt take that fact away that they r a solid team, they tied inter in matchday 1 and tied milan yesterday. im not defendin milan cause milan played poorly but bari from wat i see about them r here to play, and will prolly do pretty decent this year in serie a

I don’t think Miccoli is scarse. However I can’t see him performing at a high level for the NT, and he is not exactly young. He is Luca Toni slow. Yes he’s got great technique and he is a dead ball specialist, but that is not something Italy is lacking.

iaquinta and cassano together would equal an obscene amount of goals. plus, di natale and pazzini would be nice as well as opposed to gialrdino and toni.

“Miccoli? He is a player of very low quality,” snapped Bari Coach Conte when asked about the testimony.
“I have already answered these questions to the authorities. In my view this sport has footballers and players.
“Zinedine Zidane and Alessandro Del Piero are footballers. Miccoli is a player, and one of very low quality at that.

I dunno. Storari has played decent but he’s also played poor. In the preseason, he was leaking goals embarassingly. On current form, I’d put it Buffon-Castelazzi-Marchetti. Amelia isn’t doing too bad at Genoa. But hopefully the 2nd and 3rd keepers remain irrelevent for WC2010.

ahhh yes alessio, i knew i was forgetting somebody. we need iaquinta rossi cassano pazzini and maybe quags or di natale as backup. iaquinta rossi and cassano all on the field at the same time would guarantee at least 2 goals v any opponent i would think.
