Rome Notes

February 26th, 2006 | By: Jay | No Comments »

This ‘superclassico’ was as good as advertised today, and while Marcello Lippi has called up Roma midfielder Simone Perotta, he might be wondering if he’s called up the correct Roma mid. Alberto Aquilani was fantastic for Spalletti’s side today, making several threatening runs and finally scoring the goal that sealed the deal in front of the boisterous biancocelesti fans. Massimo Oddo and Daniele De Rossi did their World Cup chances no harm either, playing lively, aggressive football all afternoon. Bruno Conti, former Roma coach and member of the ’82 Rimet trophy winner showed he still bleeds giallorossi, sitting animatedly next to Franceso Totti on the sideline as well. About the only two players who weren’t noticeable were Vincenzo Montella and old stalwart Paolo DiCanio, who did little other than menace referee Trefolani. Both men were eventually subbed out in the second half.
