Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Aux Francais

July 6th, 2006 | By: Josh | 96 Comments »

Hot plate, cold plate, whatever! We want it. France 98 & Euro 2000 still burn in our stomachs.

France were lucky to beat a better Portugal squad today. Their luck runs out on Sunday when we turn their team into pate.

Crepes anyone? I’m not touching the frog theme, but I will say, based on trustworthy sources in the northern hinterland, frogs taste more like chicken than do kangaroos. Bon Appetit!

Now for the Italia-haters who will undoubtedly flock to our site: I don’t despise the French team. I nearly named my first son Zinedine (until my wife roused her entire family to throw a coup; we went with “Costantino,” after my grandfather). We would have called him Zizou for short. God’s honest truth. Indeed, I am a huge Zidane fan, and Thierry Henry, well, can you say enough about the man? And yes, I have been pulling for France throughout the tournament…though my ultimate intentions have been admittedly sinister:

Sylvain Wiltord, a/k/a “Seal” = public enemy number one. He scored the tying goal in the never-ending stoppage time of the 2000 final. We haven’t forgotten, Sylvain.

David Trezeguet = instant agita. Let’s hope Canna and company see him on Sunday, but that remains to be seen as he has barely played five minutes the entire tournament. Of course, the suspension of Louis Saha increases the chances.

I never thought I would say this, but “Come on you blues!!!” We’re taking you to the woodshed.

I would just like to say that, although I support the French team, that if they play on Sunday like they played last night, they will almost certainly lose against Italy. The Italian team have made almost no errors in their last two games, their long forward pasing is accurate, dangerous and the best there is. Their defense is as good as the French defense and the goal scoaring accuracy far better.

So, while I hope France wins, I think Italy is the better team.

Good luck to both on Sunday.

Control Zidane and you control France. They wouldn’t have even qualified if it wasn’t for him. Portugal snuffed out Zidane and France could not generate any offence in the second half. They dodged a HUGE bullet to get to the final. Italy need to attack, attack, attack against France and let Carnavarro and Buffon take care of the back.

Compared to some of the past World Cup soccer matches, this one has been one of the worst. I’d have to say most of the players involved in physical contact deserve an Academy Award for their acting skills, not their soccer skills. One little bump and they have to flail around the pitch like little babies. Waaa! I belive that Germany deserves to be in the finals, Italy’s goal was a technical gimmie. All this talk about who’s gonna win, in the end a frog is a frog and a greaser is a greaser.

I am so tired of hearing this crap. France won the 1998 world cup because they poisoned the Brazilian team, or because they paid the Brazilians, or the Brazilians just let them win.

If France wins on sunday, it will be the same thing right? Italians are already saying that if they lose they only have themselves to blame.

Will anyone ever give credit to France? For 1998 world cup? For 2000 Euro? For getting to the finals in 2006? Anyone?

I didn’t think so. So sad.
Hatred just takes over any objectivity. It is probably the only country in world cup history having won the world cup by mere ‘luck’ and/or ‘FIFA conspiracy’ and/or ‘blackmail’ etc… take a pick.

Allez Les Bleus….you deserve every single honour and prize you have ever received!

I am tired of hearing all this crap against the French team. France didn’t win in 1998…they poisoned the Brazilians, or they blackmailed them…or it was a conspiracy.

Same thing now in 2006. Already the Italians are saying that if they lose its not because the French were good, it is because the Italians were bad.

France is probably the only world cup winner who didn’t deserve it right? :)

Anyway…even if France wins on sunday people will never admit that France has a great TEAM!

Too bad.

Allez Les Bleus and you deserve every single honour and prize you have ever earned.

anti french sentiment what are you talking about? No one can deny France deserved 1998 world cup and no one is denying it.
And in my opinion they do deserve to be in the final, I just hope Italy will win and I think we will.

Roberto and Pao:

Mi dispiace…. You were right, I was wrong. We wore blue in 98 and white in 2000. I guess I lost my cred with the folks at Channel 4. Oh well….

We lift the cup in three days!!!!

I was a completely neutral observer when these W.Cup finals began. I had no favorite team/teams. I don’t like or dislike France or the Italians. That being said, I still assert that “diving for free kicks” has tarnished this sport immeasurably. Quote the FIFA rule book all you want in regards to obstruction, but I for one want to see the players play hard—NOT just endlessly fall to the pitch with their arms & legs flailing looking to draw an easy free kick or P.K. That’s not part of the game, it’s LAZY football…period. If some of you love it, so be it. I don’t!!!

every single statement that
I made was the absolute truth.
The truth is the truth regardless of any political leanings. I’m confident that
Italy will win Sunday.

Gary,

For Germany to deserve to be in the final, they shouldn’t have allowed 2 goals, which were spectacular by the way.

You might want to brush up on the game of soccer. See how it works is the team with the most goals wins, not who Gary thought deserved to win.

As to you comment about a “frog is a frog and a greaser is a greaser,” please do watch on Sunday when a “frog” or “greaser” wins the WC. And when it happens, I’ll think of you, whether it is my team to win or not.

Hello Italians Guyz!!

I put the White Flag Up coz this kind dialog piss me off.

Specially, we are not playing on sunday. We are supporters.

For the ones who “know” Italy will win. You should bet ALL your money on Italia. You’ll definitly be rich. If you have guts coz it’s easy to say they will ‘easily” win 3 neal.

For the others more objectives. Good luck both teams.

Anyway I will party with french and italians in Paris on sunday!! My wife is italian.

[...] Historically, Italy hasn’t performed well against France, or in penalty kick situations in World Cup finals. Can the Azzuri pull this off? Last Italian win vs. France: 1978. World Cup finals involving Italy that have gone to PK: Three. Italy victories in World Cup finals that have gone to PK: Zero. Italian fans, though, may like this: Since 1970, Italy has reached the World Cup final every 12 years (1970, 1982, 1994, 2006). It has alternated wins-losses: 1970 (loss), 1982 (win), 1994 (loss). So could that mean 2006 is a win, perhaps using revenge as motivation? [...]

[LA FRANCE] your an ignorant piece of shyt… Typical.

why dont you go play with your barbie and J**K O*F,

ONLY A MISERABLE, SCARED LITTLE BABY WOULD MAKE SUCH A STUPID IGNORANT COMMENT LIKE YOURS… WELL ITS AFTER THE CUP, AND WHO WAS IT THAT WON?
OH THATS RIGHT, ITALY. ITALY WON!!!

WE “THE PEOPLE” WHO DISPISE THE FRENCH TEAM DO IT BECAUSE THEY DESERVE IT. THEY ARE CHEAP SKUMMY PLAYERS, WHO DID NOT DESERVE TO BE IN THE FINALS, PORTUGAL SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE FINALS!

THEY, THE TEAM RESTED THEIR VICTORY ON ZZ’S SHOULDERS, ONLY ZZ - CAVED. SNAPED AND SELFISHLY ALLOWED HIS TEMPER TO OVER RULE “WHAT WAS BEST” FOR THE TEAM.

ITALY WOULD HAVE WON REGARDLESS… WE HAVE THE BEST GOAL KEEPER OF GERMANY 2006-

WE HAVE THE BETTER TEAM! ITALIA SEI FORTE!

AS FOR THE FRENCH… (BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME… WITH OUT ZZ, I DOUBT YOU’LL GET VERY FAR - ANYHOW)

Even though I agree some of the diving is taken a little to far at times , you have to realize that the players play the game and the referee’s make the call’s , so if you are upset because a certain team got a penalty kick ( or whatever else), don’t blame them , blame the ref. for displaying the call.
