Defense: No surprises there; the call-up of Pasqual is likely due to Zambrotta’s absence.

Goalkeep: Good to see Buffon back between the pipes. He’ll need to be sharp if Italy is to go deep this summer.

Midfield: There are just too many guys for the number of spots. Simple as that. I’m guessing Camoranesi, Pirlo and Gattuso will start on Wednesday.

Striker: Vieri in, Cassano out. Hmmmm. Like Lippi says, “if you’re not starting on your club team, you’re going to find it hard to play on the national team”. (Christian Abbiati, are you listening?). I like the Iaquinta decision too, despite only about 10 caps he appears to have found a home on this team.
