Racism, You, and Me
It’s no surprise to anyone reading this that racism has become a huge problem for this blog. I am going to very clearly lay out the rules regarding racism:
1. It’s not allowed.
That’s it. You post a racist remark/derogatory term, and we will do our best to blacklist you and edit every entry you make from then on, whether or not its a racist remark. Furthermore, if you even point out that someone said a racist remark, that comment will be edited. This is a no tolerance policy and we will do our best to make sure that racism doesn’t make it’s way onto this blog. If it does, I ask solely that you ignore it and do not comment on it.
I’m deeply and truly sorry to anyone who was offended by racist comments on this site and I take full blame personally. But do know that Daryl, Paul, and I will be doing everything in our power to stop it. I’ve rediscovered my love for blogging (and have gained more time), so I’ll have more time to post and more time to be vigilant on these posts.
Best regards.

You may edit this post if you like. I would like to say that none of you are at fault for any post that contains anything that may offend someone. Thus your apology is not needed. I appreciate the fact that you take the time out of your day to create a place for fans to explore their passion. Ignorance can not be put in a box and stored away. The reality is that ignorance is best dealt with in the open. The Internet does not allow for this, because people can remain anonymous. I respect your vigilance. Please remember that for every jack ass out there, is someone who respects what is the result of your hard work. For the record, I have no affiliation with the offside I just love it.

mac- I do agree but it’s getting out of hand. People are being offended and are leaving the site, which is bad for everyone. I want to deal with this but it has to be a group effort.

Giuseppe- as far as I know it’s not on tv. Atdhe.net is your best bet.

I understand a group effort in terms of ignoring the problem so that it is dealt with internally, but am I missing something else?

For the first time in a long time, i admire Lippi for his comments..
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=684149&sec=worldcup2010&cc=5739
he has warned Ireland that our team will go all out for a win at any costs..
also, on the brighter side, rumours have it that Dinatale will be partnering iaquinta instead of Gila
http://www.football-italia.net/oct10j.html
that will be terrific because dinatale is very creative and technically better than Gila,,if Pirlo, Zambrotta and the likes fire today, i might forgive them and start supporting them again..let us show today that we r world champs..a win is a must

Trapattoni’s recent comments on the exclusion of Cassano being similar to his exclusion of Baggio, Sacchi’s omission of Zola etc:
http://www.football-italia.net/oct10b.html
It makes me ask the question: are these comparisons serving to justify Lippi’s choice, or do they actually undermine his inability to learn from the past? Trap has previously said Cassano was a joy when he was the national coach. The man is very hard to read, and is, I think, playing some subtle and sly mind-games!

I have just had an Epiphany, It’s all clear now! Here we go.
In reading an article that (a) Sacchi blamed baggio for the world cup lose in ‘94 and (b) Trap loves Cassano and (c) Ancellotti wants to coach the national team after the world cup, I came to a realization.
My prediction, quote me on this if I am wrong so be it:
In march Amauri will be selected as a striker for the Azzurri. In June after humiliation Lippi will be sacked and brought back as manager or in some big capacity at Juventus. Also, Cannavaro is going to announce his retirement from football this season or next year and take over as an assistant either to Ferrara or Lippi at Juventus.
If you recall, there was rumours that Juventus was on verge of signing Antonio Cassano a number of months ago. Those rumours immediately died as soon as (a) lippi was having lunch with Juventus execs (b) Ranieri was nearing the door and (c) rumours Cannavaro was on his way to Juventus.
Let’s see if this is what happens.

stallion
Thats bull. DiNatale has done jack with the NT. Sure he’s havin a rollicking season but I have my doubts about whether that form is going to transcend when he plays for the NT. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s flattered to deceive. I’d rather go with the same team as the one against BUL (assuming that they’d have the same level of cohesiveness).

This article feels more like a Pre-Comment warning rather than a Blog Article… but here’s my suggestion, not about moderating comments but if you really want to put Racism under the microscope, you have to look at it through an intelligent analysis of it. From the English teams of yesteryears to the fact that the homogenous Brazil everyone loves today was at one time a “whites only” club. Its important to speak about the football quality & how Racism really sets football into the nebulous region of backwardness, almost a “Victorian Empire Eurocentric” mindset.
Globalization has been great for Football, it’s improved the Premiership & the Serie-A, the only country that continues to struggle with accepting blacks into their clubs is the Spanish Liga. This is a historical truth, I went to Spain and saw a lot of racism directed against Croatians, Gypsies (Roma People), Jews and Ecuadorians… while in the USA which is historically still carrying the stigmata of slavery, blacks, japanese, Europeans are welcomed with open arms by the teams and the fans alike in Baseball, Hockey, the NFL & Basketball.
Bottom line is that Spain which is a collection of different “countries” & not states as some would believe has a lot to overcome, a lot of it though has to do with the unbelievable amounts of illegal immigration that the creation of the European Union created… many European countries are struggling accepting minorities into their culture let alone into their football.

worldcupblog ~ This be about time. Sayings were very offensive for African/Black people here. Aappreciatte yours stand and hope not allow no more racism here.

tottigol, with all due respect for ur arguments, i think it will be a good idea to start with DiNatale and then bring gila as a sub..Gila is physically more imposing than Toto, and he will be more effective as a sub..but what worries me is that Irish r really physical crop and they will be fired up in front of home crowd, the idea is to go out on an all out attack, we have our super blocks in de rossi and palombo..but Lippi, pls dont play pepe..

No offense, but this was a long time coming. I could not understand why a place like this, with regular moderator involvement in the comments, was kept so dirty. Sweep out the trash, please.

We are working on it guys, and I’m sorry it took so long. But Fernando does have a good point on racism, though I’m not going to blog about it. To be honest, I don’t care about the history of racism in Italy nor do I feel that I should blog about it. There’s no room for it in football and life and if people want to be racist than they have to do it somewhere else. Not here.

Julian- This is a question that has nothing to do with anything but why does this site have two names? WorldcupBlog & the Offside? I never understood that.

Fernando,
WorldCupBlog is for international team blogs, The Offside is for domestic club team blogs.

@ All, Racism prevails everywhere and why important all stand against it.
Wow just got kicked out of a cab because the driver didn’t think I could afford the fair?? What’s the world coming to…

Ahhh is that what that is, thank you for answering my question.
