Phase II: The Journey Begins

Tomorrow (or today, depending on where you’re at) starts the ‘friendly’ season for most of the European powers and we’ll all be trying to glean some insight from the results, looking for some kind of ’sign’ that a team is on the rise or on the slide. June just isn’t that far away, frankly. But if the game is tomorrow, that must mean today we get… media day! Here are a couple of my favorite cracks from the press session:

Lippi on Totti’s injury:
“Out of a total of 19 games I have been in charge, we have played 12 without Totti,” he said.
“Just go and check how those games went.”

Carlos Alberto Parreira on the Azzurri:
“”Italy…are a new squad since Marcello Lippi’s arrival, but they are direct and well-organised. ”

Jurgen Klinsmann plays the diplomacy game:
“Italy have quality in every position, and Lippi’s squad is more mature and more experienced than ours”

Hey, hey!!! Where is your comment on the overwhelming victory against Germany??? This was one of the most expected games and you still didn’t write about it?

Having emergency plumming problems in your house? Your woman left you without giving you a good reason? Your dog ate too much ravioli and is at the vet’s ER?
