Not Sick Over Totti’s Sickness
Was I alone in rejoicing over the weekend upon hearing about Totti’s flu-like symptoms that kept him sidelined? Can we get him some more of whatever it is he ate on Saturday please? It’s time for Totti to take it easy, eh?? Last thing we need is some goon from Inter (no names) or overzealous, title-chasing defender from Milan crunching the ankles of our beloved captain. Sure they might take Materaz… I mean “random defender” out back and shoot him if such would occur (thereby solving a separate worry for Azzurri fans ahead of the final cut), providing some consolation…. but in the end we’d be without our talisman. I understand that it’s nice to get some match fitness prior to the tournament, but one must also ask if it’s worth the risk. Coppa Italia’s nice, and so is the Champions League, but like it or not, our team’s World Cup hopes seem to ride on this one man’s shoulders.

I was secretly happy that Totti was a little under the weather, but then I got to thinking that of all Roma’s remaining games, surely Treviso would have been the easiest/least dangerous for him to return. Both Milan and Inter have everything to play for, as does Roma, against Milan anyway. It would have been nice if Spalletti played him against Treviso and then sat him for the remaining games. Totti could then have more time to gain strength and then play in the friendlies leading up to the WC to gain some match fitness.
As for Materazzi, I was thinking the exact same thing. As soon as I heard Totti was available, all I could think of was a the potential for a horror tackle by Marco, thus ensuring mass pandemonium on the pennisula.

Give Totti the same Lasagna’s as the ones that the Tottenham players ate before their final match last weekend. I promise you he won’t be able to play that final !!!

You know, what strikes me is that the Spurs players PLAYED and then complained!!! We want to play again. Wah wah wah!! They were beaten by recently promoted West Ham, who, unlike Spurs, had only pride at stake!!! Wah wah wah wah wah….. Funny how when the Azzurri got booted by Moreno in Korea, all the English press were saying “sour grapes, sour grapes….” And now the Spurs endured a little bout of the diaroo and they’re stomping their feet like schoolkids. We want a “do-over!” wah wah wah wah wah wah freakin’-wah. Sour grapes, Spurs.
PAUL: we’re on the same page. Treviso would have been nice, but don’t NOW go and play him against imbecile/mad defenders….

Shame on those who wish to see players nder the weather or injured. You are not true fans of the beautiful game. To see a great game we must have great players playing. Think again.

Oh lighten up, Dino. Nobody’s wishing injuries/illness upon ANY players — i.e., even the players you don’t regard as “great.”
This is about the world cup and our chances of winning it — WITH our best players playing.
