Nesta confirmed out. Voronin out for Ukraine.
Nesta will not be available, as we suspected. However, now news comes that Voronin (Sheva’s partner for this whole tournament so far) has a muscle tear and will miss the rest of the cup. So the injuries are affecting both squads.
And you guys are right about Oddo, I had completely forgotten about him (just goes to show you how much action he’s seen). So mmmaybe Italia is not as thin in back as I had feared. None the less, Cannavaro and Matrix were both handling Viduka before Matrix got expelled, and I don’t know that Lippi can afford to man-mark someone like Sheva alone, so the outside backs are going to be doing extra work covering space.
I must admit, Italy hasn’t played a great match yet but you know its in them and I’d love to see them give Ukraine a ‘good kicking’ to set up a semifinal for the ages against Germany or the Argies.

I swear you can rely on Germany in semi final. The huns conquered Rome in 4th century, we conquered Rome in 1990 World Cup and we will hurt them at home in 2006.

Germany is lucky because not all people there are like you, BARBAR: pathetic person. I’m Italian with German origins: Romans were more civilized and advanced than primitive German people…however, our soccer is more competitive than your. March 2006: Italy 4:1 Germany. Shut up please.
I think that European Top 5 Teams are:
France
Italy
Spain
Portugal
England

Barbar,
If you were a true italian supporter you would realise the pain and heartache that these injustices have caused. I’ll keep things in context because it’s football we’re talking about and not some major life changing event, but ultimately as an Italian you would understand that football is something we italians feel passionately about.
you make it sound as though it’s just italians that cheat and dive and con referees etc. Surely you saw Thierry Henry the other night, hold his face as though he’d been hit by Tyson. Surely you remember Rivaldo in 2002 slump after being struck by a football as though he’d been hit by a snipers bullet. Surely you remember 1986 when maradona’s “hand of God” came into play, and let’s not forget the ultimate diving champion Jurgen Klinsmann who thought that it would be funny to celebrate his first goal in English football by diving to the ground to amuse his critics. I therefore say.. How dare you brandish the Italians as the cheats, when we have been cheated against so many times before. what you seem to forget, is that football apart from being a sport is now one of the biggest businesses in the world and players, clubs, countries etc, will go to any length to ensure that victory is theirs. I am not advocating this as right or just, but sometimes as the old saying goes, if you can’t beat em, join em.
Now i hope that Italy do win tonight, and you know what if they do win 1 - 0 al’ italiana as you say, then i will celebrate as hard as if they were to win 4 or 5 nil. at the end of the day we deserve some luck and if it happens in this tournament i’ll be as proud an italian as any other to say i watched it all.

Read it, hear it, see it. And be an admirer of English fairness and sportsmanship now even more than before.
you didn’t even notice that all your examples (add Figo) are southern football nations like Italy.

Can someone explain the intense interest that American’s have in Italian football all of a sudden. The anti Italian crap I’m reading here is making sick! Stick to your own football, you know; the game you use with your hands!!!
Barbar if English football is so clean, answer me these questions..
Why did I witness Peter Crouch pulling a defender’s hair like a girl to score their goal against Trinidad & Tobago, go unpunished or Carrick’s foul in the box that should have resulted in a penalty go unnoticed?
Why is it that doping regulations in England are the least stringent in Europe as they take far fewer urine samples per season and the trace tolerances are 10 times higher than in Italy?
Why have we in England heard nothing on the bung scandal brought to light month’s ago when the F.A. promised to launch an investigation?
It’s evident to me that all we have here is Italy bashing! People making racist comments about Italians and nothing else! Go find another forum to comment on something you might know about for example: Barbar can go on “Still can’t find the weapons of mass destruction forum”
As for LiverpoolFC calling us lowlifes & dogs, it takes one to know one!
In the UK the English hate Australians for the big mouths & despise the Scousers for everything else! You could not have picked a worse combination to represent.
The folk from Liverpool are derided for being thief’s, crack heads & whores. Couple that with the fact that descendants of white Australian’s were indeed criminal’s, should make you an expert in these matter’s.
Seriously I don’t believe for one minute that all Aussies, American’s, even Scousers should be tarnished with a dirty brush, but if you believe in your own comments, then to you, I’ll stand by mine. If you have something poignant to say or constructive criticism’s then great. If all you wan’t to do is wind us up with the very same racism you accuse us of, then you’re not wanted!
FORZA ITALIA

Bruno.. the drug tests are low in England because they never find anything.. in italy when they test they find all sorts of drugs.. oh by the way .. In italy when they look closer they also find all sorts of fixed games and cheats.. to bad.. maybe they should start to play football with thier hands…

Thanks Sunny!
Drew, what rapier wit, what kind of logic is that! You’re saying it’s ok to find a certain amount of banned substances in a premiership player, because they don’t cheat!
As for cheating & fixed games you must be so naive to think it only happens in Italy. Germany’s World cup bid was nearly ruined with a referee match fixing scandal and Brazil has suffered similar!

how can anyone hate the italian players…? I guesse those people are just jelouse that Italy won the cup !

all the negative critisizime people are displaying amungst the italian diving surely should keep in mind that there team/players do sometimes aswell. If you are going to point fingers at the italians and call them cheaters you might as well call all other teams/players cheaters because they do the same thing.

frankly , I’ve seen much more diving from other teams than I have from the italian team. No one should really argue against italians , besides I don’t see anyone else holding the cup ( other than the iatlians of course! )

i just want to add something about the slightly exagerated tumble that grosso displayed in one of the games ( i think the italy vs. australia ?) , i admit it looked a little exagerant however grosso didn’t make the call , the ref. did so blame the ref. and another thing i must add - the ref. was probably professionally trained , in other words he doesn’t just pick out calls out of his pocket , so if you’d like to argue with the call the ref. displayed than thats fine , it’s not the italians fault such a call was made.
