[...] Wayne Rooney was carried off on a stretcher today after suffering a foot injury in Manchester United’s match against Chelsea. “I was scared,” Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho told reporters. “England need the boy, the World Cup needs the boy. I thought it was a bad injury but I was talking to one of their staff and they said it’s no problem for the World Cup.” While the whole of England holds its breath, there is definitive news that Christian Vieri will not be fit enough to play for Italy at the World Cup. Filippo Inzaghi is expected to take his place, a move I would have made with or without Vieri’s injury. [...]

Yeah Vieri can’t recover from his injury I hear it on Italia1 Tv this morning while Totti is recovering fast althought I doubt he will be in his greatest shape in the WC

Now let’s see who’s gonna be in the Vieri’s place

Right on, Alastair, but Gila’s been way off. If you’re going to select based on past performances and current form,
I think there’s a certain enfant terrible from Bari who edges Gila out. (I.e., based on past performances, not form, as both are struggling in the latter category).

i’m sure we will all be in for a surprise when lippi announces his final 23. I honestly cannot come up with a list that would even satisfy me. Especially in midfield. Will diana make it? if we r taking only 6 midfielders, i assume they would be pirlo, gattuso, de rossi, camo, barone and perrotta. So marchionni’s out too…But then, this list has too many central players (only one wide player in camo). So WHAT DO U THINK LIPPI’LL DO?

I see all this talk of lucarelli, inzaghi etc. What about Cassano people? If he is injured fair enough but if not then he has to be on that plane! He was our biggest threat in Euro 2004, i know we went out in the group stage but we need his determination and deft skill!!!!
