Man I Miss Football
This is #@%$ing boring. And pardon the French- I do realize this is an Italy blog.
But I can’t stand the summers, at least in terms of football. There’s almost never anything to actually talk about since almost nothing actually happens. The club blogs have their transfers and friendlies to cover and speculate about, while us national teams have almost no real news to post about. I mean, we could talk about things like Lucio’s supposed-yet-unconfirmed transfer to Inter (wait, he’s not Italian), or… or, uh Adebayor to Man Citeh (Whoa, neither the club nor the player here is Italian), or…. dammit, see what I mean?
It’s just a slow summer for Calcio in general, it seems. Milan are more content to let players go than come, Roma are broke, Juve have done most of their dealings already, and Inter, well, who knows. Man City and Real are the only two who can seem to afford to buy players now, though that’s probably because the two of them inflated prices so much. But in terms of Italian players and Italian news and actual Italian happenings, those are few and far between, and thus we have close to nil to blog about.
Which tends to make for one boring summer. But, relax, me and Paul are still here. We will have posts up and editorials and polls and the like- it’s just that our posts are going to be like the Italian mercato so far. Not as much as any of us would like, but the best we can do in the circumstances.
In other news, I’ll see some actual football today (Debatably, depending on if you feel the MLS is real footy or not). Me and my friends have row 6 tickets to the game between Anna Beckham’s Galaxy and the New York Red Bulls. It’s no Calcio but it’s something to hold me over until we get back into European football.

Steven,
i am pretty sure the most coveted Argentine player is Messi, and unless i am mistaken, he isn’t comming to series A

If Ibra go to Barca, it won’t be long until Messi arrive at Inter. I believe Messi is the reason why Moratti agrees to release Ibra.

While I don’t think we should pay special homage to Cassano for simply returning to pre-season training early, we should however commend him for his change in attitude and his obvious desire to gain a place in the Azzurri squad.
I am a Milan fan and you would think that I would speak about Cassano( who is an Inter fanatic) with contempt, but I won’t. Cassano really and truly does have all the qualities to become a legend of Calcio and with a bit of fine tuning, it will be less then 12 months before the world believes this.
I would urge Lippi and Cassano to put aside their differences and work together for one common goal, the most prestigious title in football.
I feel that Sampdoria is the best place for Cassano right now and hopefully the Del Neri/Cassano water is now under the bridge and they can focus on a good season with Cassano at the forefront of a Europa League challenge.
I can’t see any other options for Italy at this point, especially if the Confederations Cup is used as a reference. We never got a glimpse of the 2006 squad that grinded out vital wins three years ago but with the Bari hitman in the squad, the Azzurri will benefit immensely and will then feel confident to defend the world title next year..
For a while I’ve been thinking, with a lot of confusion, why Cassano does not play for Italy. He, in the right position and team, could out do anyone. Flair, touch, vision, they’re all there!! Italy seem stale at the moment. Add to it, if the stufforn Lippi continues to ignore Balotelli, we might see him score against us playing for Ghana. The kid is too good to let go.

By the way, on Juve signings, i definately feel that Secco& co are doing a great disservice to our Italian homebred stars..Secco & Co seem to have this “far away hills are greener” mentality when it comes to selecting players. Trading Nocerino in the Amauri deal, as you rightly mentioned, is a perfect example of this lack of trust in the homegrown players. In the game in Turin last season Nocerino destroyed us in midfield and I got his message anyway, even if Secco missed it.
Looks like the same thing could be happening to Marchisio now, I really don’t see the need for Felipe Melo, nor am I buying into the sudden hype that surrounds him currently. He’s got a terrible temper and can be riled very easily, we’ve all seen it last season. Could turn out to be a liability in the long run, he’s not even that good a passer of the ball.
I can’t understand why Secco has deemed it OK to sign Melo for £20m, but wouldn’t cough up the cash for D’Agostino, who is a far superior footballer as far as I’m concerned and also happens to be a Juve fan.

Kurdt, i see no way Messi would be coming to Inter. he is way, way better than Ibra + even 25 mil

ya, I dont see Messi coming either. Moratti would do just about anything to make that happen so if it was even a possibility, Massimo would be throwing players and cash at Barca. Messi has said on numerous occasions that he wants to stay at Barca for ever and ever. If he doesn’t want to go, there is no way the club would sell him.
I suppose we can dream, though.

9 champs leagues Milan target, well put buddy. Especially the bit about Juventus. I am a Juventino and I am extremely aggitated by their lack of faith in Italian players. It seems that the Italian mentality is to go for Brazilian players even though the Italian product is probably better.
Giovinco bothers me the most. This kid should have walked off the team last year. And yet he is sticking there, I’ll guarentee he doesn’t earn a starting spot on this team this year and sees about the same amount of the bench as he did last year. I don’t seem to understand how this helps in development? This kid is going to be ruined goods in no time. Heck, he isnt even a kid anymore, the guy is older the Messi.
It’s depressing to see this disaster. Another simular story is and has happened at Milan. Just look at how they treated Poloski. it’s sad

The main problem with the current situation with our National team is obvious!!!
DEFENCE IS THE PROBLEM!!
We are not producing top quality defenders in Italy like Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi,Alessandro Nesta, Alessandro Costacurta, Guiseppe Bergomi, Fabio Cannavaro and Ciro Ferrara who were masters at zonal marking, reading the pace of the game and also man marking if required.., Juventus like Italy are not strong in defence. Both have and will struggle to keep clean sheets. We are weak in an area, that once we were very strong, which no one can argue with.Part of Italy’s problem is a system that seems very unfamiliar to the players coupled with the wrong personnel being used in the system. The system should work if like Milan you had two combative, industrious midfielders like Ambrosini or Gattuso. Montolivo, Pirlo and Camoranesi in midfield with two strikers does not give the defence the right level of support.
Looking at individuals Grosso is talent – why he was dropped by Lippi only he knows. It is a shame that this will result in De Ceglie moving on who is a talented youngster.
Cannavaro is passed his best and cannot command a first choice place. His understudy Legrottaglie is a competent player, but not someone you want in as first choice centre half – he reminds me a little of Luigi Apolloni, acceptable as long as he stays on the bench.
Chiellini has not had much match practice in the lead up and is a player who has only really had one full season at centre-half, he will get better but needs a competent partner. Unfortunately unless we take a chance on Santacroce or Bocchetti it looks unlikely we will find one in time for the World Cup in 2010.

Blacks ( african descended) italians must never be allowed to officiate serie A..The referee robs Milan a sure win..Marco Motta brings down Zambrotta and it is a clear cut penalty but the referee waves play on and gives a red card for Ambrosini for protesting??ridiculous and he ensures that Roma gets an undeserved win!!all the marginal decisions have gone against milan..My team is perugia( where r they?’) i dont like Milan but today´s game is a blot on sportsmanship..This makes me hate all the sicilians/napoleatanos and other souther descended african descended italians moree..
