Looking Ahead to Hannover

So.. I got around to watching Mexico/Ghana tonight (hey! I gotta work sometime, y’know?)… and this is the same Ghana squad that did absolutely nothing notable in the ACN. I’m not quite sure what’s going on there, but they couldn’t control the midfield, they couldn’t get shots on goal when they did have possession, and the keeper was probably Man of the Match.

I just expected more creativity out of them. What’s more, I’m not sure how they’re going to respond to an Azzurri team that will be much more physical than Mexico was. I just don’t see, right now, how Ghana has a chance at beating Italy in their opening match. Although I thought the same thing back in January, so what is my point?

Three of them, actually. That’s what the opening round game should merit, making it much easier to secure passage into the second round. Dont’ for a minute think I take advancement as a ‘done deal’. This is, after all, a tournament…and in a tournament, your weaknesses get exposed. The conditions are a bit unusual. You’re living out of a hotel. There are annoying media interviews. And there are always a couple of average guys who put on their national team kits and they’re somehow suddenly built out of kevlar. It all begins to add up.

Ghana are in turmoil now and they are talking about bringing in Ruud Gullit to coach. I expect the team will show better talent at Germany but their form isn’t good.
