Good interview. Lippi is mandatory reading (and listening) for any manager or football fan.

What Lippi managed to achieve is priceless in Italy where mis-management of human resources is endemic..Lippi work and philosophy are an inspiration for anyone who’s leading a team ..not just in sports.

Awesome post John. I read about the goal on espn.com but words cannot properly describe that. That ball moved like a pitcher throwing a nasty screwball. And, it makes me even more pissed that I could have watched the game if stupid comcast would only give me GolTV.

The year for Italian Football just keeps getting better.

Canna has just made the three man shortlist for FIFA World Player of the Year along with Ronaldinho and Zidane. No defender has ever won this award.

Does anyone have an opinion on C ROnaldos disgusting dives on the weekend. He keeps getting worse and worse. What can be done about his dives. HE is hurting the game and the integrity that goes with it. Should he be suspended?

I have no opinion on this except to say they should leave the guy alone. English fans are bitter children because they have failed to win a major title in over forty years…I see diving in every game and from some of the most respected players but it’s the poor souls with the reputations that take all the heat. I think they decide right away who is a media darling (Henry) and who is not and than scrutinize that person’s every move. Good for you CR do what you have to do to score those goals because in the end all the managers ever look at is how many goals you’ve scored and not how you scored them all this other crap is just bitterness and jealousy.

I said before that CR gets a bit of a bum rap. Yes he dives but so do other top players. I don’t like to see it from him since he he such a great talent and it’s a shame that some people only focus on the occasional dives.

Jay how about opening a thread to discuss the Fifa player of the year award? Great news again that Canna made the final three. Though he didn’t get off to the best start with Real this year people forget it’s based on last years performance. Which brings me to the inclusion of Zidane. Am I the only one who can’t believe ZZ is even in consideration for this award?

Im not a fan of Ronaldo. He makes it very difficult to cheer for him. I hope he comes nowhere near teh Serie A.

I’m not a big Ronaldo fan either and would be very surprised if he ended up in Serie A. Inter Fans overwhelmingly don’t want him near their team.

Mike …I might be a little biased in my team selection…lol

Probably most people would disagree with Luca Toni being up front. I put him there based on his scoring in Serie A, 30 goals in 2005 and 31 goals in 2006.

Hard to pick a bad team with all those great players to choose from.

Let me know who your team would be.

Okay you have lured me in.

The only untouchables are Ronaldinho and Cannavaro. AS for goal Buffon would be a finalist with Lehmann and van Der Sar. AS for your defence Zambrotta and Grosso would be removed for sure. Not usre why Messi and Kaka are even considered. Your forwards are also very confusing but Toni must be a favourite.

I would have Shevchenko Henry and Van Persie up front. Van Persie has probably been the most electryfying player since the WC. Ronaldinho, Riquelme, Ballack and Lampard in the middle. Other then Cannavaro there is no defenders that really stick out. Maybe JOhn Terry and Grosso.
