Lippi Interview

April 20th, 2006 | By: Jay | 2 Comments »

This interview was pulled from the FIFA website, although I couldn’t find it there, its in English in its entirety here.

Interesting that Lippi wants to get the fitness levels stronger as the tournament goes on…that sort of implies he thinks they can get through the group phase without being 100% on top of their game. Given how Italy has started the World Cup verrry slowly on some occasions, I’m a bit surprised at this tactic.

Oh yes, and he confirms that matches against Switzerland and Ukraine will take place in the first week of June!

Yes, and ubelievably, Lippi actually uttered the following:
“It is therefore essential to be flexible and not just stubbornly pick the players who fit in with your favourite formation and personal view of how football should be played.”
Ha!

Here’s an article that just came out today about Lippi still INFELXIBLY depending on Vieri for the world cup!!!

What a buffoon. In the article, he also makes it abundantly clear that he’s NOT going to pick Cassano. Buona Fortuna, Cassano…. you’re still young, you’ll have other world cups….

Now I ask you, how is that a flexible, wait-and-see type of approach?

I just don’t understand how Vieri can still even be on the radar. It makes no sense. But I still think Lippi has done a good job with the side and has made an effort to look at lots of different players. This undying devotion to Vieri is killing me though.
