Leaving It Late

April 27th, 2006 | By: Jay | 3 Comments »

So yesterday we discussed the notion that everyone is tired. Regardless, the places in the European finals are settled, the Coppa Italia spots are secured and its time focus hard on Lo Scudetto for the weekend entertainment.

Juventus have ‘left it late’ as the saying goes…and today’s news that Zlatan and Vieri are thumping each other in practice does not bode well. Still, a trip to Siena (winless in their last six) might be the tonic they need.

Meanwhile, AC Milan has to regroup and get over their Catalan hangover. Enough with blaming Marcus Merk (and no, that was not a foul!). The tradition of the Italian media being in an uproar over the officiating isn’t going to change anything. Injuries are starting to mount, and one must wonder if the Rossonieri have enough strength to push Juve to the wall. Luckily they’re at home, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Livorno win at the San Siro.

Roma almost has to win at the Stadio Bentogodi to keep their Champions League hopes alive. With no Montella, no Mexes and of course no Totti, that’s a tall order.

I’ll say Juventus wins Milan scratches out a win to survive another week through a Gilardino goal, and Roma topples.

Although the Serie A season is long and teams in champion’s league and coppa Italia have even more games to battle out, they still have roughly a 2 week break before the world cup (which also includes 2 friendly matches i think). These two weeks should be enough to recover and just thinking that it’s the world cup should boost each player even more. So i dont think that Italy should use this as an excuse … also if the Italians have had a long and hard season, so have the rest of the world. Italy has the players, its now does to Lippi in choosing the correct starting 11 and the best bench he can.
In addition I hope Milan win the Scudetto, as Juve really don’t deserve it!

I think Juve do deserve it. not on the form of the last month or more, obviously, because they have been pretty dire, but they began with a record start to a Serie A season and have lost just one match all year. I’m just hoping for a major shake-up at the end of the season, including the replacement of Capello, Camoranesi, Zebina, and others.
