Im not an azzurri fan or anything but I just wanted to bring an amazing player to your attention Italy fans, his name is Ignazio Abate! Although Milan has been piss poor Abate was nothing short of sublime in all of his performances either as a winger or back up Right back..

People that are blatant racist are just hiding much bigger problems with hate.
I have been a super fan of Italia since ‘86. I am also a fan of Ireland. These are the two countries my family comes from.
I hope Ireland crushes Italia or at least keeps them from scoring. While I don’t think that it will change Lippi, it may force some other change that is much needed.
Go Ireland.

i’ve always thought Abate was a good player after seeing him come on the azzurrini in the olympics. he has pace and passion. Hopefully we can see more of him.

Looks like Marchisio is out of the Ireland game.
I would probably line up this way.
……………Buffon………..
Zambro.Gamberini.Chiellini.Grosso
………………………….
Camoranesi..DeRossi…..Palombo
………….Pirlo………….
………………..DiNatale….
………….Iaquinta…………

ya if marchisio is out, that looks like the probable lineup tonyy

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi has backed Marcello Lippi’s decision to exclude Antonio Cassano from the Italy squad, saying he doesn’t score enough goals. I totally disagree with him, due to the fact that the strikers in current Italy squad are not efficient, Cassano is a play maker his performances with Sampdoria are very effective. Does Italy have a playmaker Nope, does Italy have a goal scorer Nope. Can someone tell me pleaze when was the last time Gilardino scored a goal for Italy? These kind of comments from a world cup player dissapoint me, DD Rossi has done wrong by saying such thing.

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has dipped his toe into the Antonio Cassano debate, saying he is glad the Sampdoria star isn’t in the Italy squad. Someone else sounds like Inter-Milan coach Mourinho! Such statement from a world class coach could add the motive to M. Lippi not to call Cassano in the future. I imagine if Ireland wins the game, probably at the post-game in front of press Trapattoni will say thank god Lippi didn’t call Cassano. And since Lippi is really bugged from the press about calling cassano that will make him more hard headed about the issue.

Italy Under-20 coach Francesco Rocca said: “I play those who deserve to”. Wish Lippi learns something from Rocca, number of players in Italy squad do not deserve to play for Azzurri which raise a question, on what basis does Lippi call players? why is he only focusing to call players mainly from one club?

how did trap do in 2002? or euro 2004?

ya irish r ok but have no class like italy, an out of form italy could prolly just scrape by ireland with a win but an in-form italy could tear traitor trap’s ireland anyday, cassano or not in the lineupp

DDR may have said that about Cassano because of what happened at Roma.
You guys had better start believing Italy could lose to Ireland. This Italian team is crap. A loss could only be a good thing in that certain players get dropped.
As far a Trap coaching Ireland, I think it is great. What is a coach supposed to do when he comes from a country that produces so many great coaches. The man has had a good career and he stepped up to a challenge towards the end of his career. Would you rather he be coaching England?

From GRossi’s twitter- twitter peeps…wats good??? its awesone being on the national team but the days seem longer than usual…dont know why..oh well
Days seem longer than normal, maybe cause of longer training? I wonder why.

I’ve said in the past Miccoli deserves a spot.
I agree, as a whole, this is not the best lineup.
Seriously. The Milan players are struggling this year. Expect a grinding match for any positive result. Ireland played well in Italy and deserved the draw; why should we think anything less on their home soil?
As a side note, has anyone noticed Ferrara’s bizarre sub moves over the last couple of games? I don’t know why they insist on not playing Giovinco. Against Bayern, they could have used him and they had nothing to lose in using him against Palermo. Instead, he takes out Deco (who was playing well) and brings in de Ceglie. Weird.

even if italy get hammered in this game and lose it 5-0, you know lippi still won’t pay attention.
im not excited about italy playing these days…i hate the team that he picks..i hate seeing pepe etc on the field…if only the man would stop being so stubborn, we could be proud of our azzurri once again

Chiellini Tweet
Live from Coverciano: ora un po’ di relax, poi si torna in campo alle 16.30

I’m going to do a first this saturday. I will not be watching arrogance get beaten by TRAP. Instead I will be goig to watch Toronto FC… At least with Toronto FC its a club being run by english pricks who know they’ll never win
DeRossi’s comments are quite delussional. The guy gets a monstrous red card in one world cup, gets banned for four games and thinks he has bragging rights over cassano? If he is worried about scoring he should go and ask the Brazilian strikers how they walked right through him in the confed cup.
At the end of the day the fact is Lippi has coached against two brazilian teams, both of them walked right through them. You can bet it will happen again the third time they play. Ireland will expose this very weak defense, I would not be surprised if we lose that game. I will be shocked if we some how win.
Finally, aside from everything that is wrong with this team, someone please tell me ONE thing. Why is Cannavaro there? I mean he is suspended the first match, he is injured, he is not flying to ireland. Why would you waste a spot like that?
Are Berlusconi and Lippi smoking from the same pipe? Cause there are very similar situations going on here.

Bit off topic, but why aren’t you guys linked from the Italy Offsides page anymore? I was loving the one-stop shopping.

yeah i am also wondering what cubby azzurri just said. It was a lot more handy before. i also want to say that this blog has gone terrible. No personal comments on the side were made. Nothing. All that was said was discuss. It kind of defeats the purpose of a blog as it is now just acting as a forum. I think you need to pull up your socks and make this blog worthy of the flag at the top of the page!!

I want to address the racism one more time.
Guys, me Paul and Daryl are really busy. Paul’s a first year student in college, I’m in my sophomore year, and Daryl runs the entire site- and all of us have outside lives. This is a hobby for us, something we do because we like to do it. This is by no means an excuse for the racism. But you have to see it from our point of view.
We delete more racist comments than you guys could ever know about. But it’s just impossible for us to delete all of them. We can’t. There are some days when we’re so busy that we don’t get around to checking the comments, and I apologize hugely for that. I take the blame fully with any problems you guys have with this site, as I feel like it’s mine since I brought in Paul and Daryl is in charge of many other things.
Posting will pick up again soon. I’ve been incredibly busy but I’m starting to carve out time for posts so please be patient. You guys deserve a better blog and I deserve to be a better blogger, so I will work on that.
As for the racism, you guys just have to ignore it. I wish there was a way to ban these guys but we can’t. If you could, please just have discussions around the racism instead of about it. Ignore the racist posts. Let them say what they want but don’t add fuel to the fire. I ask this of you so we can make the blog a better place together.

Cubby Azzurri,
The WCB links on The Offside pages have disappeared for every country, not just Italy, so it’s nothing to do with what has happened here.
I don’t have the answer yet, but my guess is that it is an error caused by the recent WordPress and server upgrade on The Offside and should be back in place soon.

Julian, fair enough. Might be an idea to add comment moderators, so that the burden isn’t wholly on your few shoulders.
