How Deep Does the Rabbit Hole Go?

May 10th, 2006 | By: Jay | 4 Comments »

Carraro resigned, now Mazzini resigns… and suddenly the accounting up in Turin isn’t up to snuff. For the love of God, someone get me some news from the pitch, please! Relief comes in the form of the Coppa Italia…phew. Roma and Inter both had poor outings last weekend, but Roma can’t help but have one eye on that final Champions League spot up for grabs this weekend. Combine that with Totti’s absence (read Josh’s commentary) and the return of Veron for the nerrazuri in the playmaker role and I think Inter will pull this one out.

On a personal note, everyone please officially welcome Josh, who has been posting quality comments for months and is here to help spread the Azzurri love from the other side of the fence now, so to speak. We’re excited to have him contributing to the best blog on the WC. This site wouldn’t work without all the faithful (Paul, Rinaldo, Jules and everyone else)…so keep your comments coming. By July we should have enough action going on here to make your head spin.

cheers!

I just hope all the scandles dont rub off on the italian team. Also what the hell is Lipi doing comenting on this scandle and even sticking up for juve?? I knoe he was a former coach of the club but i think he should keep his noes out ot it (as least til the world cup is over) becasue the l;ast thing any one wants to happen is him being brought into all this!

Thanks, Jay, very kind of you. I’ve got a couple of “nippers” with a third one coming this July (due on the same date of the world cup final), so I’ll do my best to contribute as much as possible. As for the Coppa, I think it will be an interesting tie, as “NOBODY circles the wagons like the Giallorossi.” Yes, indeed, I am an unabashed Roma supporter. I’m sure you’d think otherwise given my prior rantings on Totti’s unlikely fitness and the snubbing of our favorite enfant terrible (AC)….
Does anyone know if the game will be aired in the U.S.? GolTV doesn’t have contract rights to the Coppa games, is that right?

As for our baby due on July 9th:
I’ve told the misses that she’ll have to go solo to the hospital. Told her that she’ll need to do her best Luca Toni and “shore up” until I get there. If Italy win, she’ll have to give me a re-cap on the 10th!!!!
Alright, I din’t say that last bit, but I did tell her that it’s “O Solo Mio” time on the 9th…. reasoning that the WC comes only once every four years, and with favorable conditions, you could have a baby every 9-10 months….. it’s an undeniable point, right? I’ll keep you posted on the kid front. Forza Azzurri.

As for the Rabbit Hole, it’s not looking good. Although we have ZERO clout in the international refereeing scene (think back to France 98 and Japorea 02), I thought that we were due for some good refereeing Karma.
You know, thought the pendulum was on the upswing…. But the refs might go out of there way to show that they’re not on the azzurri dole….

You know what i hate the most .. is the fact that italian soccer always looks like the bad guy, just coz they come out with all there wrong doings .. yet on the other hand the english, germans and spanish cheat just as much or even more (how many times have u seen the azzuri get robbed of victories or teams in the chmpions league (such as the milan v barca semi final where shevsa goal was disalowed and the ref ended the game early)???? So from all this i also hope that they expose english, spanish and german soccer and finally get rid of all the coruption — otherwise soccer will become just like boxing did!!!!!!
