Fiorentina Shows Italy How to Do it Right
I’m absolutely sick and tired of hearing about the EPL. Totally sick of it. I’m sick of hearing about how England has the strongest clubs in the world, even though Barca completely proved that wrong and Inter, Juve, and Madrid beg to differ. I’m sick of hearing about how England is that standard for football nowadays, whereas the real beauty is in the tactics of Serie A and the style of La Liga. Most of all, I’m sick, SICK, of EPL dominance in the Champions League.
But not anymore.

Fiorentina showed the big bad Champions League team from the EPL that Serie A can indeed compete with the EPL. They showed Liverpool and all of England that Italy is home to exciting young talent, terrific attack football, and a deep understanding of the game. Jovetic in particular earns applause from me for a majestic display which may well go down as his coming of age tale.
Out of all 4 teams that Italy have in the CL this year, Fior was the one I had the most doubts about. They did pretty badly last year in the group stages, and didn’t start out this one well. Inter have Eto’o and Mourinho, Juve have a great midfield and goalie, and Milan have the pedigree. But out of the four teams, the only one to make Italy proud in the CL so far is Fiorentina. Not Inter, who can only tie, and not Juve or MIlan, though they’ve only played one game each.
Not Mourinho, not Ferrara, and definitely not Leonardo, but Prandelli. He’s one of the best tacticians in the game and this victory will likely go down in history thanks to him and the kid with the crazy hair. And Italy have him to thank, as we can now use this as a springboard to re-establish our peninsula as a CL powerhouse… though we’re going to have to keep a watchful eye on Spain during the process.

Less than 1% chance Lippi will call Cassano or Pazzini this sunday

I’m looking forward to Cassano giving 100% tomorrow – a couple of goals and an assist would be nice. It could be a chance for them to extend their lead over Inter, who, facing a free-scoring Di Natale, might well drop points.
Lippi would then look utterly ridiculous if he left him out of the squad. And if he picked him, he could say he was simply following form players, not bowing to media pressure.
Sunday could mark the renaissance of Cassano’s national career. If it doesnt, the press will be baying for Lippi’s blood.
Also, isn’t it great that a team with so many Italian players are top of the league! By my reckoning, there’s many 4 non-Italians in squad. We slag Palombo off here, but he’s captained his side to the top of the league. No mean feat. And, as captain, he must take some of the praise in the rehabilitation of Cassano. The captain keeps up moral, motivation and discipline on the pitch. These have been Cassano’s weak spots in the past.
And you’ll have players like Poli, Fiorillo and Foti coming through from Samp in the future. That’s good for the national side too.
So, three cheers for Sampdoria!

Miccoli should be placed on Il Nazionale even if as a late minute impact sub…His footwork, speed, shot power and accuracy are some of the best Italy has to offer…Now, im not saying he’s the best by any means but i think that Miccoli has shown that he still has it after many have labelled him as “Washed Up”…Take a look at the chart and tell me differently

Oh shut up italian_stallion. Get “movinng” to some place where your vile racism is welcome. We’re trying to discuss footbal here. I’d love to see you shout that crap off to Balotteli. He’d give you the kicking you deserve.

Seems Lippi is waiting until the completion of the evening game (Juventus v. Parma) before he announces his squad. Remember Cannavaro hasn’t played for a little while, he may be waiting to see if Cannavaro even dresses and how well he plays.
In the meantime, it seems that Amauri is stiring up stories of him going to the Azzurri. Nothing bothers me more than someone claiming he should be part of this team and that indeed he will be part of this team, even though he is a foreigner.
Half time in Serie A and Milan are losing again. Their defense looks awful, it’s nice to see the Nesta banter has come to an end. A couple months ago, it seemed like everyone was clamouring for nesta now that he is showing his true colours meh.
Totti, lippi has said he will not select Totti. Totti scored again today, I really think he is and should be a viable asset to the azzurri. He is continuously near or at the top of the serie a scoring table, and demonstrates tremendous leadership skills at Roma. Not to mention, Lippi himself has said on occasion that we must respect the ‘Campione del Mondo’ why is he showing Totti no respect?
Today’s selection: I have a feeling Pazzini will be selected for the national team, Cassano won’t be which will continue to frustrate me. Gilardino, Iaquinta, Di Natale, Rossi will all be selected as well up front. In midfield, for some reason I am really expecting Gattuso to be there. Something tells me he will, he shouldn’t but you know what, it’s lippi we’re talking about here. If he does select Gattuso it will demonstrate his thinking quite clearly to us. then we know his time is up.

correction: Juventus is playing Palermo this evening

Wrong. At every point. At every level.
Except the scores.

He should focus on scoring goals for Juventus before scoring goals for the Nazionale, anyways.

exactly!
and do we really need the rascist rants on this forum? Seriously, this stuff is not only offensive its bloody irritating.
Also, a third blogger would help with getting some stories going here, things seem to have dried up in the last couple of months.

daryl
- how about black listing the person (he’s been spreading hate here since early 2009)
- and all his comments should be deleted(regarldess), so he knows racist/s are not welcome here

jackson,
It’s not quite as simple as that. Though it’s obviously the same person, they are very determined to keep commenting, and so keep re-registering after we’ve taken steps to ban them.
The only way we could ban them permanently would be to introduce a much stricter commenting system, which may be an option for the future.
In the meantime, I’m happy to spend a couple of minutes a day deleting anything they write. But again, I’ll need a little help from the community here. So if they comment again, don’t respond to them. Just email me – daryl[at]theoffside[dot]com – and I’ll deal with it.
