Re Owen's message from June 21--all of the world class players never dive.

Henry's fake injury leads to the winner in France v Spain. Replay shows that the elbow was not within a foot of Henry's face, and yet he fakes by grasping his face in agony.

The diving in this cup as a whole is outrageous. When did it become ok for people who call themselves atheletes to pretend they are injured when they are not. It is cowardly, cheating, and it is not the beautiful game.

I'm for the De Rossi ban. I am even more for FIFA reviewing matches for blatant dives and issuing bans for that as well. That will quickly provide incentive for people to prefer to move forward rather than dive in hopes for a free kick.

i think he should never wear an italian jersey again...that elbow was disgraceful. I almost wanted Italy to lose after that.

And then the stupid, "what me, are you kidding ref?"...give me a break, go sit down you clown.

he embodies everything that's wrong with italian soccer...a bunch of prima donnas that are INDIVIDUALS and not a team... most of them are worried about their own stats (and hairstyle) than their team

take a look at the goal inzaghi scored today against the czechs...granted he still scored, but pass the damn ball for the easy goal instead of trying to be the hero

anyways...back to what's his face, anyone who's ever played a team sport knows that the elbow was the stupidest thing he could have done...it didnt serve any purpose, it was in midfield for cyrin' out loud...selfish is the only word you can use to describe it

so I hope that FIFA, and if not them, the FIGC, suspend him for the rest of the tourney...

the italians are a great team, buy they're not going to go anywhere if they dont get their act together...

I agree and laughed at the Glass Joe= Mike McBride comment. That's funny. It was a mistake. Why didn't they give a red card to all the Americano players who blew on the Italian players and made them fall down all the time. It happened all game long too! But no red cards. Everybody hates Italy that's why DeRossi got red carded.

P.S. I would write more but I have to go watch the Sopranos in my wife-beater shirt.

If you actually bothered to read the regulations posted on FIFA.com you'd see that any red card for intentional physical harm is punished by a minimum of a 3 game suspension. DeRossi should get at least that.

The impact of the Red Card seems disproportionate. Teams will be penalized for the current game but where there is so much subjective question about whether the foul deserved a Red card, why carry over penalties to the next game? It hurts the competition in my opinion and diminishes the World Cup no matter what level the penalized player is at, great, good, or average.

Observer you're ridiculous. I watched that game in 2002...first of all, in the first half an italian defender high tackled a korean guy, who needed medical attention briefly.
THEN, in the second half, it was TOMMASI who whacked Coco with his elbow when they both went up, with a Korean guy, to head a corner kick by Korea.
I remember the Italians in the room were screaming murder, thinking that the Korean guy had thrown an elbow in retaliation for the first-half elbow that wasn't called. Then they laughed with embarrassment and shut their faces up when the replay showed what really happened.
Also, earlier in the match Totti was booked for flailing an elbow in another aerial challenge.
That's THREE high tackles by the Italians in that match alone.
What about this Cup? The lone high tackle so far, of course, is De Rossi. Is it not clear to all of you now that Italians are the prime culprits for high elbows? Hell, the Italians like throwing elbows so much they even whack their teammates...fucking ridiculous
