Comedy Is Beautiful

Well, that’s one way of handling it: Il Romanista will hand out copies of Life Is Beautiful in response to the anti-Semitic demonstrations at Stadio Olympico recently. Its an amusing response…but it does speak volumes about how far some of the crowds in Italy have fallen. There was no real outrage expressed by the majority of supporters, and it seems indifference rules the day. Maybe its my naive American view. Dunno. Stadiums have historically been ’safe houses’ for all kinds of expressions, political or otherwise, and when they get too cleaned up they’re boring, frankly. Might as well just watch the match on television, right? But let’s hope the Roma tifosi begin to express themselves differently.

I think Sepp Blatter had a good idea when he suggested docking points for bad fan behavior. There is no place for racism in football and Roma should take responsibility for the actions of their fans.
