Ciao, Giacinto.
What a lousy week… the insufferable (and unacceptable) draw with Lithuania, and then the terrible news that Giacinto Facchetti passed. The tributes are everywhere- you can’t miss them- but his numbers speak for themselves:
- 70 matches wearing the Azzurri captain’s armband
- two time winner of the European Cup
- three-time World Cup player
- 600+ matches in an Inter jersey
… and one of the great attacking fullbacks to play the game. Facchetti simply revolutionized the position. If Roberto Carlos could actually defend, you’d have a close approximation of Facchetti.

Jay this is indeed sad news, hadn’t read about it anywhere. Please don’t be too hard on the Italian team, they won the WC, had a heavy schedule, dealt with all the problems in Series A, a lot of them moving to new teams and it is very ealry days yet. They’ll come back they won’t let the fans down, you watch have faith my friend. Still can’t understand why they didn’t play Zambrotti though.
