Checking In On…

March 15th, 2006 | By: Jay | 1 Comment »

Occasionally we get carried away by an exciting performance or a series of matches by a player that sound promising… and then everything goes dark. Until the roster is announced in May we’re going to keep our eye on a few players “so you don’t have to,” as the saying goes. Part I is today, Part II tomorrow, and so on.

Christian Vieri: by and large, not making a huge difference at Monaco. A couple early goals and not much since then.

Antonio Cassano: Not getting enough playing time to make a dent at Real, despite the fact that Ronaldo is being badgered by anyone and everyone for being overweight and a waste of space.

Marco DiVaio: He was never going to make the roster, but I find it amusing that he’s outscoring Vieri at Monaco. Perhaps we’ll always wonder how things fell apart once he joined Juventus.

Christian Abbiati: Going nowhere at Juvenus now that Buffon is back (and the subject of a ‘lot’ of trade rumors).

Christin Vieri has brought quite a lot to Monaco. His performances are quite impressive and is not the Vieri from AC Milan nor of the last year at Inter. He scored a lot in his first appearances and then injured himself during the Italian Training (before the Germany friendly match). He has scored 3 times in 5 matches in L1 and 1 time in 2 matches for C3. Di Vaio has scored 4 times in 11 matches and is not playing the European Cup.

Well Cassano is fat… Ronaldo and him will have to see a dietitician together. Doesn’t play enough though.

Di Vaio is awful. I look at several Monaco matches the past few weeks and I am flabagasted by the number of occasion he misses to score. Honestly, sometimes I believe that a one legged, blind man could have done better !!!

Abbiati has done quite a good job when playing for Juventus. Unfortunately for him, Buffon is Buffon.

Anyway none of the players will go to Germany
