Champions League, Azzurrini, and Beckham:Catching Up

October 25th, 2008 | By: Julian | 11 Comments »

Since I haven’t blogged in a while, here’s a whole bunch of stuff that I should’ve covered. Some of this is Azzurri related, some of it is calcio related, and some of it is relevant because I feel like talking about it :)

  • Way back when (sometime last week I believe), Baltolelli saved Casiraghi’s job and the Azzurrini beat Israel 3-1 and are onto next summer’s finals. This happened a while ago so I won’t spend too long talking about it, but good result from the lads.
  • Milan is trying to cement it’s status as the retirement home for footballers, and as such is probably bringing in Beckham for a few months. Win-win for everyone. Beckham can still play and try to prove to Capello that he belongs on the English side. Milan sells a buttload of jerseys with “Beckham” on the back and helps make up some of the dough they miss from not being in the Champions League. And Capello gets to see that Beckham is under par and shouldn’t be in the team anymore. Everyone’s happy, especially English fans.
  • Juve continued the “Italian teams will beat Real Madrid 2-1″ curse by… beating Real Madrid 2-1 at home in the Champions League. They pulled off a Roma from last year and got the job done thanks to an absolute gem from Del P and a header from Amauri. Roma themselves got a not too shabby 1-0 loss to Chelsea, Inter keep on winning against Anorthosis, and Fior lost to Bayern. Return legs in less than 2 weeks.
  • I have a feeling that this weekend, clubs in crisis will no longer be. Roma should get a result against Udi and get thier season back on track, and even Tottenham finally fired Ramos and should be able to get a win.

Luca Cigarini was brilliant today (again) for Atalanta. Hopefully a big Serie A club will take notice.

wow!!as iam posting this, we r at the 70 th minute at Madrigal, Villareal is turning out some dispaly leading 4-2 against Athletico Madrid..Surprised why iam posting regarding a primera liga match??well..Rossi happens to play for Villareal and today he has turned up a phenomenal performance, he will definately be a big thing for mAzzurri..It is about time any big club from serie A grabs this fella next season..
Roma is a big lol..could have lost by 6 goals…Crictiano Doni and Cigarini were incredible for Atalanta who were unlucky to lose against Milan.

Now, i want to post something very important thing which surprisingly, no one has cared to mention!!
well, it is about Rino Gattusso, not very long ago( just before Euros and during Euros and also after Euros for a while9, i did see everyone deriding Gattusso and some even posted that he was a spent force and he was jaded and a pale shadow of himself, well..if anyone did note, Gattusso is looking his old self in the past one month and a half..he has been very..i repeat..very very vital both for his club and for the nation ..he has been playing absolutely marvellous football and has been a rock in the heart of the midfield..i mean, a lot wrote him off and said that he would not feature as a first choice for Milan with the signing of Flamini..After recovering from his injury, Il Ringhio has displaced Flamini in milan and is shining in all matches and also, it was Gattusso who guided the team against Bulgaria and Montenegro..Today, in bergamo, the bullish player played a great match and was instrumental in holding the very talented Cigarini and the Atalanta lynchpin Doni at bay..what a gritty display of tackling/back tracking from Gattusso!

Provenzano, couldn’t agree more. The last 5 times I’ve watched Gattuso play he has been unbelievable. He’s even improved his passing A LOT! This is the Gattuso that all fans of calcio to deserve to see and I hope he continues!

As a Milan fan the direct correlation of Rino being his old self and Milan’s success goes hand in hand. I can only hope that Pirlo also returns to his old self and then Milan will really be the force to be reckoned with in the Serie A.

ASEM, you my friend are an ass, and you time and time again reinforce my constant negative attitudes towards Roma fans as a whole all over this blog. Your personal attack is not surprising, however it is unwarranted and inappropriate considering people were banned from this blog for the same type of stuff. Just goes to show that as Roma fan it seems you have carte blanche to do what it is you please. Best of luck to you and your sinking ship of a team this season.

“Everyone’s happy”- yes, especially Victoria Beckham, who’s craving for all-day-long shopping in the fashion centre of Europe…
