Can’t Get Enough Cassano

May 26th, 2008 | By: Marco Stucazzo | 12 Comments »

Every European football fan has an opinion about Antonio Cassano. Good or Bad, Cassano gets so much attention it’s incredible. The fans, the media, coaches, owners and The Offside (we just can’t get enough of him, we cover the ins and outs, videos, stats, his under pants and you can surely find a Proactive Solution joke somewhere) all have something to say about Antonio. Maybe it’s the fact that Cassano was born the same day Italy won their penultimate (HA! France) World Cup, his poignant Barese Ghetto hardships, his dashing good looks or plain and simply because he’s the purest talent Italy has ever nurtured since Francesco Totti. Unfortunately, The Bari Born Bomber has been known for his…let’s say petulance throughout the years but AC is the luckiest unlucky man I know, or vice versa);

He was left/kicked off the Azzurrini squad but still managed to be the star of Euro 2004 squad. His 2006 switch from to Real Madrid wasn’t timed well enough to garner a WC 2006 Squad call up, but he manages to make the Euro 2008 team. It’s frustrating because the only thing between Cassano and many years of European Football Glory (seeing he’s a 1982 model) is his temper and brain. This football genius needs to channel his crazyness in the ways of the Buddha master and only then will he be able to display his Calcio work of arts on a regularly sane basis.

The excellent ; should Antonio –Talentino – Cassano – be- included - in – the – Euro - Squad debate has been settled by the Don himself we can move on to other things. The Bari born fantasista is highly unlikely to be kicked out of the squad, unless he starts imitating Donadoni and forgets to take his lithium. Other than that, Cassano can start concentrating on Europe’s big boys of soccer.

But should AC be an instant starter in Austria’s Swissyness ?

Hey if you ask me, he should definitely be higher than Antonio Di Natale in the striker pecking order but I don’t know how the Don sees Cassano and Del Piero ? How about a 4-3-2-1 with ADP and AC support Big ass LT ?

What do you guys think ? Antonio Cassano a Sarter ?

I think that if the “Don” does in fact take him to the Euro’s he will start.

Let the beautiful gamble begin. As you suggested I like him playing with Del Piero and big man Toni up front.

I suspect that for the first few games, Donadoni will go with Di Natale at first and bring on Cassano in the second half (more doubtful about Del Piero… he’s had enough experimenting with the bianconero). Depending on Cassano’s performances, he will either stick with that tactic or upgrade him to starter above Di Natale, which is what I hope will happen. Bring him gradually, and all will be just peaches.

I wouldn’t reccomend to have him as a starter from day one, though.

Don may need an extra strength on the bench and it may be the role of Cassano, to come onto the pitch somewhere like 65th minute and turn exhausted defenders around.

Lorenza; nice video.. even if I don’t speak Italian, was still nice..

I personally think the Don will start with 4-4-2, and then change accordingly after HT depending on the score to either a 4-3-2-1 or 4-5-1, persay..

Buffon; Zambrotta, Canna, Materazzi, Grosso; De Rossi, Pirlo, Perotta, Camoronesi; Di Natale, Toni

^^ not the best of formations but that’s how I see it..

Then Delpi and Cassano come on..

Antonio is a great player ! I am a Roma fan and I truly know how good he is! When he used to play in Rome he brought magic with every touch of the ball, he’s inccredible ! I still follow Cassanos games and he still has that magic and definitley SHOULD BE A STARTER in the euros ahead of everyone ! He’s GREAT !! FORZZA AZZURI!

After all his goals in pre-tourny camp it really looks like he will be a starter. He’s been one of the best.

DelPiero sucks at the international level. Bringing him is a waste. He’s had plenty of opportunity to make something of himself and time and time again he has proven that he is nothing more than a flop. Stick with Juventus and leave the national team alone. They do better without you. If you care to argue just try and think to yourselves if he has ever done anything important on the international stage. I rest my case.
