Cannavaro is a Druggie

October 8th, 2009 | By: Julian | 15 Comments »

Maybe.

See what happened is that Il Capitano failed a drug test today. It doesn’t have immediate effects on our next game, since he’s suspended for the Ireland match, but it is pretty big news. Or it would be, if he had actually been doing drugs instead of taking medication for a wasp sting. Interestingly enough, this happened in late August but wasn’t discovered until today and the Italian Olympics Committee wants paperwork. I expect this to be sorted out quickly.

It’s highly ironic though, since Cannavaro had been quite good this year for Juve until he was injured. Was it because of riods? Did he pull a Barry Bonds/the entire Yankee lineup on us and take performance enhancing drugs?

Of course not. This isn’t baseball.

Game is on Saturday at 4. Preview up tomorrow.

In other news, Marchisio is out of the next 2 qualifiers and possibly next 2 months of footy. He has a meniscus problem and may need surgery.

Don’t appreciate the Yankees Statement, really don’t…Anyways, I think that Canna is getting way too old, he’s gonna be 36 by the next world cup…Time to get the bacK looking like Criscito, Chielini,Legro, and Santon…Oldest one being Lini and he’s only 25…Canna’s era are all played out…Camo and Pirlo g2g as well…Gilardino? Stryker? ¿WTF?… De Rossi has to stfu and stop talking shit bout Cassano.Where’s Pazzini? Come on Lippi? Di Natale? Top Goal Scorer? WTF? (ancora)…Cant wait for the preview, Cant wait for the game, can’t wait to see a quality Italian Team again, NON POSSO ASPETTARE PIU!!!

Agree, agree, agree…lets get the squad sorted out. Canna is no druggie, typical Italian crap with delayed paperwork. Lippi needs to get the young blood playing, they are the future and the old guard have to become the back-up. Look at What Inzaghi does at Milan, pops up when needed. Forza Italia!

As a joint Yankee/Azzurri fan, I truly don’t appreciate the steroids comment. (thats another argument though)Back to football, I agree that this will hopefully be cleared up quickly. I think that the Marchisio news is for bigger, he appears to be an important part to the Azzurri future as well as already being an outstanding midfielder, probably our second best right now. I really think that the only chance we have of doing anything special in South Africa requires a Trequartista. Giovinco probably isnt ready. (Cassano cough cough) I believe a formation with Buffon in goal, Marco Motta Chiellini Canna (still our second best centre back)and Santon as backs, a midfield of Marchisio De Rossi and Pirlo, and Cassano Iaquinta and Rossi as our attack force would be hard to beat. There is so much young
talent available for Italy and it sure would be a shame to see so much of it go to waste because of a certain maestro name Marcello

I couldn’t agree more Mauro…Italy should get rid of every player they have that’s over 32…Buffons still there though so no worries, and I believe he’s the only one who should return other then Lini and DDR who, for the obvious reasons, should stay…Younger blood is what wins WCS’…Look at Brasil how many of thief players are over 28? If I’m correct it’s 0-3…Ronaldihno’s gone, and Adriano’s fighting an uphill battle to get back on thier NT…A perfect example is our holding onto Luca “WTF” Toni long after he finished playing WC quality…

I really don’t appreciate the Yankees comment man, besides the fact that it’s off base.

If I offended anyone with the Yankees comment (though why I did, I’m not sure. I’m not the first to accuse baseball players of doing steroids and many more than one Yankee has been found guilty), I do apologize. My point was to contrast soccer with baseball, where steroid abuse is much more rampant. Not to say we don’t have it in footy, but it’s nowhere near as big a problem and I don’t think that’s about to change with Cannavaro.

The comment was offensive because its unfair to single out the yankees. Saying their entire lineup does steroids is bullshit because, Arod and pettite, thats it. thats 2/25 players. Baseball is plagued with steroids which is where i think you were going with the comment but the yankees are no more guilty than any other team. I mean Manny and Ortiz both got caught, and ya dont worry they didnt pretty much single handedly carry the Red Sox to two world championships…. everyone is guilty and right now the yankees are one of the most professional teams in sports.

Italy (probable): Buffon; Zambrotta, Legrottaglie, Chiellini, Grosso; De Rossi, Palombo; Camoranesi, Pirlo, Di Natale; Iaquinta
Ireland 2 Italy 1
I wish Italy wins the game, but I doubt it.
One more thing even though Italia U-20 lost to Hungary at the U-20 World Cup in Egypt, knocked out from quarter-finals, but the young guns played a good game really, Italy should be proud of these players. Yes Italy have so much talent so much young players, but the problem is how to utilize such young talent to build a very strong National Team.
Carlo Anceloti has announced his desire to coach the Azzurri one day, I hope so because he is doing really well with Chelsea and he knows how to use a useful, energetic, talented players in the pitch. ciao
