A well-composed article on the issue of ‘non-Italian’ players in Serie A by Paul Anthem can be found on Wanted In Rome. Its a tricky issue, or set of issues actually, and everyone has opinions. We all want to see the best players in our respective domestic leagues…but at some point it does affect national talent. As someone who’s sat through some vintage MLS matches watching a pathetic Lothar Mattheus suck up a paycheck, its encouraging to watch the new American talent (Eddie Johnson, for one) come through in the more recent years.
