A Little Gamesmanship

Well, well well… the Olympic games end in Turin and a new game starts at Coverciano: Marcello Lippi is asking for some extra time before he names his roster for the World Cup. But it gets better… Van Basten and Klinsmann also want to push the date back.

On the one hand, I’ve never understood why rosters have to be declared more than a few days before the tournament. Big deal. On the other hand…rules are rules. If it changes for one team, it has to change for all.

Re: Sal, does Vieri have a chance to make the squad? I’d say absolutely. Two months ago he looked doomed…but he’s played better at Monaco, Cassano has cooled off at Real, Inzaghi doesn’t have a chance, and Totti is “unknown” at this time. I’d still probably take Iaquinta if it came down to one or the other, but we’ll see.
