Italia 3-1 Belgio ; No insight but Some Highlights

June 1st, 2008 | By: Marco Stucazzo | 14 Comments »

The Azzurri defeated a lively Belgium squad in a match where Roberto Donadoni managed to try out some stuff ahead of this years Euro. Antonio Di Natale’s brace and Mauro Camoranesi’s crafty goal was enough for the Azzurri. But now everyone and their sister has jumped on the Christmas bandwagon. I don’t care if Di Natale scored twice n the Ukraine, twice against Belgium and many times in Serie A, he shouldn’t be a starter in my book. Just Check out his performance against France a while back and that should be enought to see he’s not a big game player.

Nice rocket from Aquliani in there, kid deserves some playing time in Euro.

Di Natale’s gonna start I’m sad to say. First goal was average, second was handed to him on a silver platter by some shitty belgian defense. But since he scored, it doesnt matter to the Don.
Other reasons are the rest of the forwards have issues. Del Piero doesnt fit in, Cassano might go ape shit at anytime (and i’m 100% FOR him starting), and Quags and Boriello just suck and arent ready to play in such a huge tourney.

What I would like to see:
Buffon
Grosso Canna Barzagli Zambro
De Rossi Pirlo Aquliani (Tough one here, need defense: Gatusso, offense: Perrotta. Aqui is both)
Camoranesi Toni Cassano???

Agree completly with this line-up. I hope the Don feels the same way but after 2 Di Natale goals i cant see him not starting.

Buffon
Zambro Canna Barzagli grosso
De Rossi Pirlo Gatusso(he hold the midfield together)
Camoranesi Toni di natale(he play almost every game during qualifiers why drop him now for a time bomb ready to blow)

haha Roma bias marco???
I’m a huge Roma fan too, and OMR has been greattt, but I think my Germany ‘06 WC bias is a bit stronger, hence Grosso starting. Both of them will get a TON of playing time though.

And warning, I didnt pay attention to which side they would play, but yeah, Grosso definitely playing on the left. My bad.

Look at the only Italian in the midfield… Only 2 Italians and 2 Serie A players on the squad.. None are Gatusso, Ambrosini, Perrotta or Pirlo..

Camoranesi and Di Natale will start if they are available in time vs the Dutch. Guaranteed !

One likely change from the vs Belgium team is the inclusion of De Rossi with the expense of Aquilani.

Erm… “his performance against France”, Marco? Name me one player who did well in that game. Wrong example.

Di Natale’s been earning his left-wing spot all season long, both with Udinese and with the Azzurri. It would be really foolish of Donadoni to drop him now, especially since Friday’s friendly against Belgium put one thing very clearly into the spotlight: the 4-3-3 with Di Natale-Toni-Camoranesi is a well-oiled machine, the 4-3-3 with Del Piero-Toni-Cassano isn’t.

Ironically, Alberto Gilardino played a great game against France. Di Natale is not a big game player. He’s great against Livorno, Belgium and the Ukraine but won’t cut it against the big boys.

And please, let’s not consider Belgium a worthy opponent
