Azzurrini Win Toulon; Osvaldo Beats Keeper & Dessena
The young’uns won the Toulon tournament today on the back of a 1-0 win today, with Seba Giovinco being named tourny MVP for simply being head and shoulders above everyone and no one all at the same time.
Pablo Osvaldo got the goal on an absolutely brilliant ball from future Azzurri superduperstar Daniele Dessena, and then proceeded to fake out Dessena on the celebration. Watch after the goal when an on rushing Dessena flys into Osvaldo for the celebration before Pablo stops short, faking him out and Daniele is left grabbing nothin’ but a face full of grass. Awesome stuff.

Summary of the final here, for anyone interested. I’ll post video highlights tomorrow.

O.K., this isn’t exactly the best place, but I’m very curious about the matter.
I’ve noticed that many people are not rating Giuseppe Rossi as highly as they once used to, say right after his exploits at Parma, to the point of excluding him from World Cup qualifying match lineups! I think that this is preposterous and that Rossi is perhaps the next great Italian supporting striker… is it possible that Rossi leaving Serie A for La Liga has anything to do with the rapidly cooling assessments that fans are giving him?
Or has he shown himself to be a limited player?
Thanks for any insight into this trend.

I haven’t had a chance to see Rossi play since he left for La Liga so I can’t judge.

rossi is a great player and if you read interviews with zola or casiraghi they rate him above giovinco. the reason he isn’t rated very highly that much is because he did go la liga so people in italy aren’t paying that much attention to him. If you read spanish reports though they rate him as highly as messi and aguero.

Above Giovinco and as highly as Messi and Aguero. Wow, that’s certainly not what I was expecting.
Another question: has Rossi ever been used as a fantasista for the Azzurrini? I remember in the Holland friendly that he was the prima punta, even though Giovinco wasn’t there!
He’s far too creative to be an out-and-out striker, IMO.
